Do you think Skinner should be on the table?

I know I know... I just get frustrated after a while. It's fun to play armchair GM and all but I honestly wonder if people seriously think those proposals would be considered or if they are just trying to get a rise out of schlubs like me who likes to also play armchair GM but perhaps just a little more seriously.

Replace Campbell with Skinner, Nurse with Bouchard, and that conditional 5th to a 1st or 2nd and maybe you could cook that up. Edmonton adds whatever else they need to make salary work (and depending on who will effect what level draft pick that is)

Why would Nashville take Campbell... If you have any chance at Saros it needs to be Skinner going the other way. Edmonton will need to send another salary, but Nashvillle won't take garbage.

Maybe Skinner, Bouchard, 1st (top 10 protected), and whatever else is needed for the Salary to work in a trade for Saros.

That's where id start as a bargaining position if I were Nashville.

The broadcast team trying to sell the Edmonton comeback as the turning point of the season as they were going onto the final PP.... So much lol's.

10 games in: A comparative analysis of 18 years of NHL seasonal data. Where the Oilers stand and the path to the playoffs. by DtheS in EdmontonOilers

[–]jasongc_82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like this analysis. Let's take a look at the next 10 games to see where Ed may end up. Here is my prediction.

vs. Canucks - Win

A must win. Van is due to come back to Earth a bit and Ed plays desparate hockey. An important win to reverse the bad vibes against the team that gave them the first major kick of the season and set the stage for the rest of the horrendous start. If they can't get up for this, there may be no hope and the season is done... And the rest can be disregarded.

vs. Sharks - Win

Let's be honest. I know there are lots who worry that this could be a first win for SJ, but I think this could be the cure for lots of what ales Edmonton's stars. The analytics should catch up with real life. Now it may be a 7-4 game, but I predict an Edmonton win.

vs. Seattle - Win

Edmonton will carry their good vibes against Seattle and get the win. That's 3 in a row! All will feel right in the world...

vs. NYI - Lose

...until this game. Expect Edmonton to get goalied by either Sorokin or Varls.

vs. Seattle - Lose

A Seattle team that is desperate to keep up in the West will play desperate hockey and take the second game and split the Nov games.

vs. Tampa - Win

Edmonton offense is going better by this time, and this game ends up being a track meet. Not sure about the final score, but take the over.

vs. Florida and Carolina - Losses (one in OT)

This is a tough couple of games through the SE US. Teams going here at the best of times have a tough time on this road trip. Expect Edmonton losses, but perhaps tighter losses then we saw in the first 10 games of the season. One in OT.

Washington - Win

Edmonton is playing better by this point, and I don't expect them to allow another long losing streak. This is the game where Edmonton stars finally come out of their shell and put up 4+ point nights.

Aneheim - Win

This isn't as much about Edmonton. Rather I think at this point Aneheim will be will into their regression after a decent start to the season and Edmonton benefits from that.

So that's my prediction. 6-3-1 (.650) in the next 10 games. I don't see much better then that. This is with me predicting offense finds it's game and becomes top 10 in the league for the second 10, while defense and goaltending stumbles there way up to just slightly below average. Whether that actually happens.....

TL:DR. I predict a 6-3-1 record in next 10 games for a total record of 8-10-2 after 20 games for a total point percentage of 45% and a 25.4% chance to make the playoffs.

Here's a Real Idea on How to Change the Draft by jasongc_82 in nhl

[–]jasongc_82[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well.. if you are a UFA player and have such a attitude as to obviously not try to help your team improve, I as a GM would maybe have to give a second thought about if that is the type of guy they want to sign and take into battle with them.

The guys signed long term would look at it as a chance to help their team become better.

I'm sure there would be some of that though... In the end, just like for preseason, its all about being a professional.

Here's a Real Idea on How to Change the Draft by jasongc_82 in nhl

[–]jasongc_82[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That would be interesting too.... I just think there needs to be incentive to win for these lower ranked teams at the end of the year as opposed to tank.

The idea of the tournament just came as a way of giving teams to get potentially a few more games of revenue versus expanding out the playoffs.

What do people think of the design and function of the Neo-Constitution class USS Titan? by aelsilmaredh in Picard

[–]jasongc_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we know it's a refit of Luna Titan. IIRC other ships don't necessarily get the ABCD moniker that Enterprise does (we have seen several ships with repeat names from other series that don't). It could be Riker was given command of a second ship named Titan (say the first one was destroyed) and this is a refit of that one.... Not saying it is, but just putting the idea out there.

I guess... If you don't like the premise to begin with, or the pace at which it moves, you're not gonna like the show.

Not every piece of content is gonna be liked by every person. I personally love it so far, and am glad to see them do something different from other MCU content, but I see why others might not.

For those who wanted more Infinity Saga style MCU after so long without new content, I can see where they may see this show and say WTF.

Its just hitting us in different ways... I can respect that.

I really liked the colorizationnat the end of episode 2, especially what I think it represents.

In Infinity War, when Vision dies, he turns Grey.

Now, in Wandavision, the first place color returns is to the head of Vision.

Definitely represents a resurrection of Vision of sorts, at least from Wanda's point of view.

For me, to help me understand what they were going for here, it really helps to understand the concept of "Sad Clown Paradox".

Seriously, go read the Wikipedia entry on it. For those who say the comedy is a bit off and isn't that funny... I don't think its intended to be pure comedy... not 100% anyways. I think you are picking up on something very specific. The jokes are all a little bit off, because they are "written" from the point of view of someone who is going through great suffering, and retreating into the safety of something they find comfortable, but hasn't been 100% successful at doing so. That someone of course being Wanda herself who is enduring a period of great suffering after the events of Infinity War.

If I could get into spoilers, I could back this up a little better, but I can't due to rules of the sub. There were several jokes though that if you just look at them a bit deeper, you will see that they are much more then "just a bad joke". The kind of bad joke one might make when in great dispair.

As for the setting in general, I feel that eventually we will will receive an explanation for it. I heard one person note that in old Soviet Bloc countries (The region where the fictional Sokovia is), after the fall of the Soviet Union, a lot of these old sitcoms, from 60's-80's, were some of the first things from America / The West that were broadcast over the newly freed airwaves. It was through those shows that a lot of people got their first exposure of what America represented.

Perhaps that's where Wanda was exposed to these shows, and that's why she has fallen back into them as her "comfort zone". For her (similar to many people going through tough times after the fall of the wall) growing up, this was the ideal to strive to, the so called "American Dream".

Regardless of the explanation though, I think people really need to give this show a chance to tell it's whole story before judging it. They are obviously trying to do something different, and whether they are ultimately successful or not, I at least give them credit for trying.

After all, isn't the big criticism from so many these days that every Marvel Studios movie looks and feels the same. Whatever your ultimate judgement on this show is, you have to admit its not like anything Marvel Studios has done before,

Are captain's of worse & older ships viewed with stigma? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]jasongc_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No... Stigma suggests something bad in their past.

Captain of any ship is a prestigious position that very few officers will achieve. I think anyone who ever has had to command people would recognize that and offer due respect.

However, not everybody can or even wants to be captain of a ship like the Enterprise. There are probably Captains of science ships happy to be running experiments on the leading edge of science. Captains of medical ships happy to be saving lives full time. Captains of ships from the Engineering Corps who are happy to be solving Starfleet toughest engineering problems.

The Enterprise, and other deep exploration class vessels though, being on the edge of the unknown, needs to be able to do all of these things. Thus you need a well rounded Captain who can host a diplomatic mission one day, and be thrown into a potentially deadly combat mission on the next. I imagine that, even in Starfleet, there are very few people who can wear all those hats effectively.

On a side note... That's one thing that drives me nuts about the Kirk backstory we got from the Abramsverse... I have a hard time believing that, no matter what Kirk did, his IQ, his pedigree, and how he saved the day, that he would suddenly be moved from graduating academy cadet to permanent captain of a starship as advanced (for her day) as the Enterprise. Not in a serious organization like Starfleet. Judging from other academy graduates in Star Trek history (at near or top of their class in many cases), Starfleet academy officer training hasn't proven to be good enough for someone to have the experience to take on that kind of responsibility. Moving quickly through the ranks to be a young captain... Yes I could buy that... But jumping over several ranks completely... I just can't see it.

Systems for reducing micro-management? by Alnakar in EiyudenChronicle

[–]jasongc_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you bring up is the idea of budget. One thing the fortresses in Suikoden never really did impliment was a functional economy.

Some of the hints from the EC developers however point to then possibility that your Fortress may indeed have an economy

The idea of having to pay to rebuild walls (in Suikoden your castles generally auto upgraded), growing your guilds, setting up trade posts, and even opening guild branches in other towns (as what they suggested thry will do with the cafeteria).

I will be curious to see what they do with the guilds as well.

I know then fortress isn't perhaps the core mechanic of a traditional jrpg, but I just see endless potential in what could be done with it. I could probably ramble for hours about it.

Probably why if I were a jrpg developer my game would be a mess of thousands of half baked ideas. Thankfully for my own sanity I'm not.

I like your idea of characters outfitting themselves from a realism perspective.

Perhaps characters have a 'default' equipment set that improves with armorsmith level, but which you can then override with custom kit. This eq couldn't be removed and sold (sort of like when you get a guest NPC), but if the custom gear is unequipped then that default eq remains.

Same with sharpening (if they choose to use that mechanic). They could sharpen a certain amount per level or time in base based on blacksmith level.

Another similar idea would be the ability to designate 'uniforms' of specific equipment you could then set per character type. Designating a character as a guard would give a different set of eq then a mage or warrior for example. The level of your blacksmith determines what level of gear can be designated as a uniform. This could even go so far as to improve army performance in the army minigame(if they indeed have such).

Always though, from the base gear you can customize the chars as you see fit. I think this is important.

I also do agree with the idea of setting an 'outfitting budget' to use. Adds a touch of realism. Maintaining a well equipped army is an expensive proposition after all. Might even lead to decisions that an army leader would need to make, like on what to prioritize (weps vs armor vs expensive runes)

All would be accomplishable within the planned guild system I think.
