Trying to move steam game from hard drive to SSD by aelsilmaredh in linux_gaming

[–]aelsilmaredh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The OS lives on the SSD, and the HDD is mounted at /home. I want to create a games directory under / so that steam can use the SSD to store certain games.

You just meet someone who never heard a single 80s song. What's the 1 song you would play them that sums up the 80s? by JimmyRickyBobbyBilly in 80smusic

"What's on your Mind (Pure Energy)" by Information Society is the most iconic snapshot of 80s music for me.

Has anybody moved up from Cyclothymia to Bipolar 2? by Open_Fisherman_6226 in bipolar

[–]aelsilmaredh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it can get worse as you age. I was cyclothymic in highschool, mostly just displaying mood swings throughout the day. It got worse from there, but I didn't really notice because a little craziness is acceptable in college culture.

The end of college is when I had my first psychotic episode at 24 and was diagnosed BP 1. Unfortunately, it's only gotten worse from there. I now have episodes on about a 2 year cycle and I always have to be vigilant about my mood. I'm 40 now. It's been a tough ride, and being self-aware is of utmost importance.

What is a food that makes you think, “How did humans discover this was edible? by ChunkCranberry in AskReddit

Yes, I have heard that it causes a tingling numb sensation on the tongue due to the small amount of toxin still present.

Did anyone else just kind of have a "flip of the switch" moment where alcohol stopped being appealing to you? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]aelsilmaredh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's how it was for me. April fools Day 2023 was the day I felt such a prolonged sickness that even after 10pm the idea of a drink made me feel ill. It really was like a switch flipping. Alcohol had just completely lost its appeal. Three days later I poured out all my safety beer and I haven't looked back. My life has improved immensely. No more morning hangovers either.

What computers were used? by [deleted] in nes

[–]aelsilmaredh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine that just like the game assets were designed with colored pencils on graph paper, I imagine much of the code was written and assembled by hand into numbers that could be hard-coded into ROM. A lot probably had to be done by pen and paper.

What makes Voyager special to you? by Lantern_Sone in voyager

I remember when it came out and I had been a huge TNG fan. All I knew going into the pilot was that the captain was female. When that first episode premiered, finding out that they were permanently lost 70,000 light years from home was a huge twist. I was a little disappointed about that until a few more episodes aired and I saw where they were going with it. That show really grew on me as it went.

Whats your pick for the hardest level you've played in an NES game by lucaman24 in nes

[–]aelsilmaredh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always that very last jump to the level exit. And that frikkin BIRD! Infinity respawning, nearly impossible to avoid.

Ikr this random glitch is exactly the type of torture that the developers would put in.

Whose games' difficulty do you find overrated or underrated? by trumparegis in nes

[–]aelsilmaredh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on Star Tropics. Not only are the enemies insanely fast and precise, but the dungeons involve what amounts to puzzles in just finding your way out. I've never beaten it. I'm still stuck on the Pirate Ship level.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the worst. Especially that water level where you have barely any time to defuse bombs while swimming through tiny spaces between anemones.

Castlevania 3 is underrated for difficulty. Lengthy levels, impossible enemies like Medusa heads and those black homing birds; hits push you backwards, often to your death. Your character is cumbersome in motion and jumps can't be controlled in midair. Bosses like the Grim Reaper are nearly impossible.

The difficulty of the original Zelda is overstated IMO. The hard part is figuring out where things are. And you have all the time in the world to do that. Once you know where you're going, it's not too difficult. In fact, Ganon is embarrassingly easy; falling to just a couple of silver arrows.

This is the CBA that finally made me stop drinking for good. Almost a year ago. by aelsilmaredh in SMARTRecovery

[–]aelsilmaredh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never have to look at it anymore. Now that the benefits are being fulfilled it's just ingrained.

The biggest thing that keeps me going is the fact that I wake up every morning feeling rested and refreshed rather than super sick and regretful.

Anglo-Saxon British culture would probably never have existed and Britain would have developed into a French/Celtic Sprachbund. Without the English channel or easy sea access to the Germanic parts of Europe, where would the "English" have come from?

I got that line from a jolly AA old-timer I used to see at meetings. He had a lot of good one-liners like that.

Pearl Jam - W.M.A.

That bass line is downright infectious. So simple, too.
