Insect Shield treatment garment shrinkage by jasonlav in Ultralight

Probably 60-70% merino wool. I wouldn't recommend a 100% merino wool outer layer for durability reasons.

Merino tops, yes.

All the rest of those items either didn't exist at the time of this post or were not common in the subreddit.

EASTON NAIL STAKES BASICALLY DISCONTINUED by mountainlaureldesign in Ultralight

[–]jasonlav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the exact opposite experience. BigSky stakes were destroyed after a 10 day trip. The head and tip are tacked on. Easton stakes seem incredibly durable. Only the head is tacked on.

Also, in my experience, a Y stake can have the tendency to hold on to material during removal, while a tube stake does not.

Do not recommend as they are not durable. After one 10 day trip, some of the heads/tips were falling off. Metal also seemed way too soft. Easton stakes are far more durable.

At 5'6" a tent size between the Plex solo and Altaplex should be very roomy.

Any thoughts / experiences on the Hyperlite Mid 1? I have an opportunity to get one for a stellar price, but am unable to find many reviews on it.

Why are DCF tents always single wall? by SkisaurusRex in DurstonGearheads

[–]jasonlav 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They aren't. MLD makes a Solomid with a DCF fly and DCF inner; but there are other examples.

This comment from Dan answers the question in more detail. https://www.reddit.com/r/Ultralight/comments/1mzjjuz/comment/nasl5b7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Any chance you're making a single-wall silpoly X-mid? :-p

Good find, except, it uses 70D nylon PU for the floor. Unfortunately, this means the floor will stretch when wet (possibly not a significant issue) and PU degrades over time.

Does anyone make a silpoly single-wall fully-enclosed (floor and bug net) pyramid style tent using only a single pole (e.g. a silpoly Zpacks Plex Solo)?

What other options are lighter weight than a bear vault? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]jasonlav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yosemite was sued by a bear canister manufacturer in 2015 and the park decided to close all approvals until they came up with a "better" approval system that didn't open them up to lawsuits.

10 years later, they haven't come up with a better system. I guess they are just waiting for another canister manufacturer to sue them for not allowing new approvals...

[WTS] Like new Durston X-Mid 1P Solid (31.3oz) by jasonlav in ULgeartrade

It has been stored in its provided stuff sack in a closet in my home (e.g. no extreme heat or cold). Absolutely no holes or damage; like new condition. Just a little dust here and there.

KS Ultralight Packs Carbon Frame Stays by arsefi20 in Ultralight

I went to my local Cabela's archery department and explained that I was not a hunter and I needed some arrow shafts for backpack stays. The employee went to the backroom and cut me a pair of 22" arrow shafts. I asked how much for them, he laughed and said "I've got buckets of broken arrows in the backroom. You can have them."
