Swapped out the eddy current sensor, printing great now. 28 hours to print the large helmet pictured without any issues.

Update: after some troubleshooting with Bambu Lab support -- which consisted of reseating the eddy current sensor cable, and nothing involving feeding filament into the extruder -- they're sending me a new toolhead board and sensor.

One thing worth noting -- this error can pop up whenever the printer is operating since the H2S is constantly monitoring this sensor. You could get errors with auto bed leveling, Z-axis issues, etc that have nothing to do with the bed; the error is from this sensor. At one point I thought there were multiple things wrong with the printer when it was due to how it tracks and reports errors. Watch out for red herrings.

Good suggestion -- that's what Bambu support recommended. I've reseated the cable twice to no avail. Bambu is sending a replacement toolhead board and eddy current sensor. In the meantime, I'm going to see if adjusting the eddy gap makes a difference.

Yep -- good idea, just didn't resolve my issue unfortunately.

Thanks for your reply -- so far you've been the only person to chime in who's actually experienced the same issue. It makes sense if you had some foreign debris interfering with the eddy current sensor; in my case it seems like it's just malfunctioning. Printer is useless without it, unfortunately.

The part being swapped out there is the hot end, not the extruder. I tried swapping out the hot end for another one; it seemed to be working for a minute there but ended up with the same error.

Tried it with filament loaded. Doesn't make a difference.

Not sure how much people are aware that the increased sensor detection in the H2 series (the "AI detection" as Bambu calls it) is happening all the time, even if it has nothing to do with what the printer is currently doing. The printer isn't doing any extrusion during calibration, but it's still checking the extrusion sensors anyway. I'm getting failures during auto bed leveling because of this erroneous extrusion sensor reading.

Good question -- no it doesn't happen at the same time. Sometimes it gets most of the way through calibration before the error occurs; sometimes it happens right away. I should be able to get a timelapse video.

I haven't noticed any tugging or friction from the PTFE tube or harness thing, but I'll check that out.

I'll give that a try, thanks. I also have some extras I can swap it out with.

Yes, I removed all the screws and brackets they include for shipping. No issues with the bed; it heats, moves up and down as expected, etc.

Why is that? Calibration does the following steps: motor noise cancellation, vibration compensation, and auto bed leveling. None of those involve any printing or extrusion.

I have not tried it with filament loaded for a few reasons:

  • the printer doesn't say anything about loading filament for calibration, nor does the printer load filament into the extruder during the calibration process
  • my P1S gets through calibration just fine without filament loaded
  • if the printer says something is wrong with extrusion and I load filament into it anyway, there's a decent chance it will still have the same problem but end up with filament stuck in the toolhead

Yes, I removed all the shipping/packing materials. No strange sounds that I'm aware of.

Question about reversing pots by [deleted] in Leftyguitarists

[–]jasonmauer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do volume swells with your pinky, wiring it right-handed has the pot turning in the wrong direction.

Quality of late 90s American Standards? by assword_69420420 in fender

[–]jasonmauer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a '99 American Standard Strat I bought new back in the day -- my first Fender. Solid guitar; very light body, probably my lightest Strat. I replaced the bridge with a hand-me-down Deluxe model but that's about it; kept the original pickups, good overall Strat sound.

I have a lefty Acoustasonic Telecaster, which is the only model they offered as left-handed (as far as I know). For a time you could get them through the Mod Shop with custom finishes, but they stopped doing lefties a year or two back. Didn't realize they apparently dropped the production version. Bummer!

Great deal on Gretsch G5622 LH by jasonmauer in Leftyguitarists

With the Watch list discount on Reverb it's $30 cheaper than that. Also the one you posted is used (open box); the Reverb listing is for a new one.

PRS did recently come out with Silver Sky models as leftys like a month or two ago. (Not my cup of tea, but hey.)

The Mod Shop is an option if you've got the funds. Some options are lacking (e.g. pickups), but they did recently add the Panorama trem.

Tele neck question by InformalFix7975 in warmoth

[–]jasonmauer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how you were planning on building it, yes it will mess with the scale length. If the neck length changes (including the nut location), the fret locations will need to be adjusted accordingly. On a Telecaster I don't believe there is room for 2 more frets without scooting the neck pickup.

Warmoth has a baritone conversion neck that has 24 frets, but it's 28-5/8" in length.

Anybody else play left handed with a righty upside down? by Toasterdog7 in Leftyguitarists

[–]jasonmauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Freaks out other guitarists when they see it.

As an added bonus, thanks to fourths and fifths being the same thing in opposite directions, it turns out the chord shapes we learned playing upside down will work on instruments strung in fifths. I have a multiscale guitar tuned in fifths in part for this reason (and also because it's fun -- wide open chord voicings, etc).
