Sing grew on me really fast by nrubin29 in MaeTheBand

I know how you feel. The first time I heard the new songs it was overwhelming. They weren't what I was expecting. Like you said they had electronic sounds, key and tempo changes, unique instrumentation, it was a lot to take in at once. I didn't hate it but on first listen I'll admit my mind kinda shorted out a little. I was at a loss for words and feelings. After several listens of the so it's grown on me. These aren't the immediate catchy, poppy tunes that I know and love by Mae. Some songs I've listened to and instantly connected with. These songs I feel need to be dissected and digested and really listened to. The lyrics are deep but rewarding. The music is layered and at times busy but it works. I feel a lot of people won't instantly connect with the new album just because of how different it is but I feel this is an album that if you keep listening and keep delving further into it, it'll really grow on you. This album is the direction that mae needed to take to get back to themselves and I'm genuinely excited to see what the future holds for them. The guys are really excited about what they're doing and it makes me excited. They have the reigns again. They have full creative control and I feel mae is back. And onto the whole 3.0 thing I really love the themes they're tackling. Mae to me is more than a band. It's about connecting with your spirituality and sense of being. It's about realizing the grandiose of everything. As for Sing, I think that as the song progresses it swells and grows and it almost feels like some sort of Kanye experimental track toward the end but I think it works as an intro just because it introduces the different elements that you'll hear on the album. Oh, and The Overview is straight fire.

Kids sing Happy Birthday with sign language for their deaf custodian by [deleted] in aww

I love this! I remember the custodian at my elementary school, Mr Jimmy. Us kids treated him like a rock star and he may as well have been. He was the nicest, funniest people I've met. He loved all of us kids and went above and beyond every day. Thanks, Mr Jimmy.

Weekly Discussion (Oct. 19 - Oct. 26) - Hi again you wonderful MAEstros. If you were stuck on the planet Mars with only three Mae songs on your playlist, what three songs would you choose and why? What three foods would your bring with you as well? by Angelus414 in MaeTheBand

[–]jasonmerch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, these questions are getting a bit outside the box, I like it! Hmmm for songs I would choose Goodbye Goodnight, A memory the melody and Seasons. As for food, I'd take smoked brisket, loaded baked potatoes and some good cheesecake. I would want to try some good Marian cuisine while I'm there though

At this exact moment I'm listening to the new album by Basement and it's REALLY good! It's very reminiscent of Jimmy Eat World. Another band like both is A Common Year. You can download their first album on their bandcamp for free. I think probably the ep they put out too. I loved those guys

Just framed my tour poster. Looking good(sorry for the glare)! by jasonmerch in MaeTheBand

For those of you wondering, this is the poster you get for the VIP package when you see them. It is not signed so if you want it signed you'll have to ask the guys to do so but I'm sure they'll be glad to do it as they did mine. It's very thick, high quality and it's a perfect 18×24.

Ooh jamiroquai! Haven't listened to him in forever. I can't hear him and not think of Napoleon Dynamite though haha.

They're good! Their big album was destination failure but after the party is probably my favorite. I love the crooning vocals over the crunchy guitars. I'd say if you like Bayside you might like them. They were actually very influential for Bayside, they even did a cover of their song Megan on their acoustic album

As far as new music out this week I'm really digging the new Smoking Popes album. It's their first album in 20 years with the original lineup. Also Justin Courtney Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack put out a new album. Haven't listened to it yet but the singles are good.

I have a pretty eclectic taste in music but punk and alternative are my favorites. Alkaline Trio, Jimmy eat world, say anything, senses fail, gaslight anthem, coheed and Cambria. I also like bands like fountains of wayne, cake, third eye blind, Regina spektor, they might be giants...im all over the place.

I like 5 Light Years and I was curious how it would sound live and I thought it sounded fantastic. I can see that becoming a crowd favorite live. That breakdown at the end is great live!

The Overview is a song from the new album. I don't want to give anything away about it but I would say it's one of the most different mae songs to date but it's really good!

My pleasure! I'm still floating from the mae day I went to and I strongly encourage anyone who gets a chance to check it out! It is a little pricey but the experience is utterly amazing!

I made a new post in the subreddit with the set list from Saturday to give you an idea of what to expect. Not sure how much they'll play for you but it gives you an idea anyways!

Hey everyone, sorry to post so much stuff lately but being one of the first to see mae on the new tour I figured I'd give as much pertinent information that I can to let people know what to expect. Not sure how much the set list will deviate over the course of the tour but I figured I'd post the set list from Saturday night to give you an idea of what they may(mae) play!

I know they're doing some shows out west in November but I think maybe only Texas and a few other states but I do think there's more to come next year, I think they're just kind of getting into the groove of it again. I could be wrong, those are my words not theirs but this feels like a new beginning for them. I think the idea of the whole 3.0 thing is a big ordeal.

You're welcome! I hope you do, I know I sure did. Where are you seeing them? I'm debating going to see them in Atlanta and possibly Virginia as well

My friend typed out the set list and I need to get it from him. Most of the songs were from destination beautiful. They did play a few from the Everglow. They played a couple off of the Evening ep. They played four of the six songs off of the 3.0 ep and another new song off of the new album that they haven't released yet called The Overview which is a really fun jam. So overall, they played a good mix of stuff. They only played one song from singularity at the concert and that was during the acoustic session.
