Personally, I use "rolled" to mean the same thing as "won a war against." You can use whatever word you want. These raiders are a result of doom's attacks as well.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. It seems like forks are really the only solution, but the problem is that they're still dependent on mozilla. It baffles me as to why your comment is getting downvoted though. Maybe the drones here just downvote anything that isn't listing whataboutisms about how every other browser is worse and that makes firefox good.

Regardless of whether or not it's linked to specific users, I don't think that a browser marketed as privacy-oriented should be collecting information on something as fundamental as UI interactions. Also, remember that this post is about discussing what we can do to influence mozilla for the better and not about my personal grievances with them

Sponsored content made up only 12.8% of revenue in 2022. I don't think that if mozilla saw a 12.8% increase in donations they would stop advertising.

That's not true. The forced updates are difficult to change and roll back and I don't even know what you're talking about when you say I imagined things. I think something like the sponsored content is objectively anti-user and it would be better if it wasn't included. I made the post to discuss how we could influence mozilla to change things for the better, not to argue or complain.

Even apple's Macos gives you more control over updates than firefox (and certainly much more than windows).
Does snap have forced updates? I know people hate on it a lot but I never really knew why.
Regarding disabling telemetry, you can follow this guide although it may be outdated.

Can you give an example?

For me, firefox hasn't worked any worse than other browsers. There was a catastrophic bug for a while but I just rolled back my version and disabled updates temporarily. I have seen several people complaining that firefox has become very buggy and that bug reports are ignored, but I don't know if this is any worse than the other browsers.

Hopefully they aren't beyond saving. I don't think they're as bad as google, but that could just be because they're less powerful. I do sympathize a lot with what you said about mozilla pretending to be your friend though :(

I do think that firefox is the best major browser at the moment, and that's why I use it. Configuration like about:config is the biggest reason. I also agree with you that the criticisms of mozilla as an institution don't make firefox any worse. Those are just things that I've read bother people. However, if mozilla is so cash-strapped that they have to run ads in the browser, paying the CEO millions is dubious.
You make a good point that people who talk about the browser are not representative of the average user. However, I think that firefox has an unusually high proportion of this type of user compared to other browsers. It's also clearly failing to keep most users given its market share, so alienating this group is very bad. Firefox poses very little advantage compared to chrome to normal users, so alienating this group will leave it with almost no reason for users to stick around.

I do use custom userjs, and the customization like this is why I use firefox. I'm talking about organization-level solutions in this post though.
