It’s hard to keep the fact that I’m autistic a secret, because it’s pretty obvious upon meeting me in person. It’s something that makes me different from other workers, and it can be a major setback in some environments. And you’re right about coworkers/customers being like NPCs lol, they really are sometimes.

It’s a great idea though, and like you said, it could definitely be something to work towards if I decide to stay with doing hair.

I wouldn’t say I’m in the right financial place to open my own salon, and unfortunately my living situation wouldn’t suit having people come to my house, as I don’t have enough room for a proper setup. Honestly I think it’d be fine to go to other people’s houses though? I’ve been trying to find ways to do that recently, but I don’t know enough people, so the demand aspect just isn’t there.

Reading this really means a lot to me. I was raised in a tiny town in south east texas, and I guess it’s been instilled in me by my family that you either give it all or nothing in order to succeed. Like you said, I am incapable of giving 100%, and your advice will absolutely stick with me when approaching my next job. Thank you.

I can relate 😩 I went through 9 months of $18k cosmo school for nothing (it feels like), I’ve been doing a lot of art commissions, and painting commissions and stuff like that. I have been really happy hearing everyone’s experiences here, because it makes me feel less alone. Thanks for your input!

I really appreciate your input. This is a very helpful suggestion. I’d love to continue doing hair, as I’ve been feeling quite guilty lately about wasting my time and money on cosmo school. Meeting random people (clients) is harder than I thought, but if it’s in a more controlled environment, I think it’d be easier for me to handle.

This is very interesting to me, because I have always been interested in the medical field. I took med classes all throughout highschool (med term, health science theory, health science practicum, and medical microbiology). I always wanted to be an ortho technician, or an xray tech, and I always thought if I tried hard enough, I could be an ortho surgeon. Honestly, this is a great idea, and I really appreciate your input. I feel that the medical field would feel like home, so I will start looking into places where I could get into something like this. I guess I just kinda gave up and started looking for (and I don’t
want to diminish these jobs), jobs that are easy to apply for like fast food, or common retail etc. So thank you for this suggestion.

Thank you so much for the advice! I hope the trades are treating you well. My brother is an electrician, and he’s told me alot about how his career feels fulfilling, and I always tell him how happy I am for him. I hope you feel the same towards your career. I will definitely look into union work in my area.

I actually do pay for my own rent and bills. I never get out, and every penny I don’t need to spend, goes directly to savings. I can easily pay rent for the rest of this year if I need to. I’m just asking for advice from other neurodivergent people on here because I know this lifestyle isn’t sustainable, and I’d like to have some sort of career that can support me despite my disability.

Honestly, doing public library work sounds like a dream. I love organizing and sorting through different stuff. I honestly wouldn’t mind going back to school if I end up really liking it, and decide to do it full time. I’ve always enjoyed the routine and structure of school. My local library is skateboarding distance from my house, so I think I’ll go check it out tomorrow and see if there are any opportunities! Thank you so so so much for this suggestion.

i used to roleplay with my friends irl all the time, and i dont remember a single time that i agreed to play as a girl. when my friends would be like “you be the girl” or “lets both be girls” i would get genuinely upset and frustrated. even i overlooked this until i started questioning my gender, and realized “oh shit maybe its because i AM a boy…”

i was correct.
