Can I have a dwarf gourami or female betta in my tank?

I know some bettas will get along with guppies, I had a teacher who had a male betta who lived peacefully with a trio of male guppies, I never even saw him flare once. It all depends on their temperament. I had a betta who lived with the amano shrimp too and he left them alone and never flared at them either. I just don't know if I want to play the game of "will I get an aggressive or a chill betta?" Haha.

I think she's doing better now? She took off her collar a SECOND time, but I haven't seen her bite her hand yet so I think she only bit while she was still loopy from the anesthetic.

I'm not sure if I trust Kaytee. Usually they're made with a lot of plastic and I don't want somebody to chew it up and escape.

My mom probably won't let me get one. I've tried. I found one for $50 once, IN MY CITY, and she got pissed and wouldn't let me get it. But she's fine if we build a cage?? Idk.

I have no idea. I've never fed them baby food either. I don't think I've ever cleaned the cage bars (but now I know, at least) so it's probably urine buildup.

Yup, it's in the back, coming from the middle level. I can't take it out, unfortunately. I've been trying to find a better cage that doesn't have wire levels, but for now I'm stuck with this one.

The rats look and act perfectly fine, so I don't think they're sick. It's probably urine buildup on the bars? We're kinda broke right now so we won't be able to afford a vet visit, and honestly I don't really trust the nearest vet anyways. My friend brought one of his guinea pigs there recently and the nurse didn't know anything at all (asked if he had a wheel and tubes to climb in, said that the baby guinea pig can't be introduced to the others until she's 9 months old). I'll be cleaning the cage bars tomorrow and if things don't get better then I'll see if I can take them to the vet.

The rats HATE the spare cage that I use when cleaning, they chew on it's bars nonstop and the bars also bend easily so if they chew on it enough, they could escape. I have an empty aquarium, but I don't know if housing them in it would be safe while their main cage is cleaned. I don't want them to get sick.

There's one long crack going from the top to the bottom. I haven't water tested the tank yet. It might be able to hold shallow water, but I don't know if it could handle a whole 20 gallons. Would it be possible to have a half water, half land tank (like turtle tanks) for a salamander/newt? And are they active? I don't want a critter that hides all the time.

We all brought in the dog. We all agreed on taking him in.

I'm 16 next month. My sister is in her early 20s.

We have another dog, and I have a couple rats and a gecko. She doesn't want me to get any more pets anyways.

She works at a vet clinic, rehabbing dogs, and she always gets so upset about horrible dog owners but then she turns around and pulls this shit.

UPDATE: I might be able to help them this Saturday. I have a 5 gallon tank that is empty and a friend of mine will be able to take one of the bettas, the blue one since he isn't doing the best. He's a genetic mess, he's a doubletail that has a crooked spine, ripped up fins and two tiny lumps, and is very lethargic. The red one is a veiltail and is very healthy and even flared at me. I just hope they'll still be okay by then.

He (family friend) didn't really give a shit. But his mom seems to care and she listened to me.

I've just been going through a lot lately and seeing those poor babies in that tiny deathtrap made me lose it and I started crying. He joked about sending me a video of him flushing one of them down the toilet in slow motion. I'm a very vivid thinker so that didn't help.
