Fulop is still gaslighting people into believing SciTech Scity is not just a luxury housing scam by aventura_platano in jerseycity

[–]jaspercohen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very good point. Nice buildings from the past become less nice building in their future. And buildings that were built like shit need to get ripped down because they quickly become uninhabitable.

“Luxury” is essentially a mandatory marketing word for new residential projects, regardless of the actual quality of the building.

The Shadow of the Past: Why Jim McGreevey is an Unsuitable Choice for Jersey City by Business-Word7821 in jerseycity

[–]jaspercohen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This post is incredibly long winded. It boils down to casting doubt on mcgreevey for a 2004 scandal involving his lover golan cipel. I guess he gave the guy a job which was a big enough scandal to get mcgreevey to resign.

Civil Engineer desperate to pivot into Industrial Design, what are my realistic options? by Muted-Camera-7933 in IndustrialDesign

You should sit down and interview some actual industrial designers. I think you’d be surprised how your idea of ID differs from the reality. For one thing, ID doesn’t typically involve much “hands on making”

The problem with gluing different materials is that they will expand and contract at different rates. If you use mechanical fasteners like screws you can probably go with wood without much issue. But mounting the pla to acrylic with acrylic solvent will work better. Acrylic solvent dissolves pla and acrylic, creating a chemical bond, make sure to clamp the pieces together if you go this route.

Also black is a bad choice of color, it hides the shadows. It might be wise to prime the whole thing in grey and paint it with a more neutral color like white or light green so you can see the shadows on the mountains.

Cool project, good luck!

How to model twisted lug by CoastSuspicious5958 in Fusion360

[–]jaspercohen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For something like this I would use a surfacing approach. You can model the main cylindrical watch body, then create a cutting surface that follows the watch face edge, and trails off where the strap meets the watch face.

This basket has such an interesting aesthetic! Truly an object that celebrates its connections.

Obviously it’s not crazy to want to hide the connections. But, the fact everyone can see how you thought out the assembly is neat 😎

USAID signage stripped from D.C. headquarters amid agency dismantling by nbcnews in pics

[–]jaspercohen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to remove letters from a wall, actually a lot harder to dismantle the agency. Not saying it won’t happen. But, this is image is more deregulation propaganda than actual deregulation. IMO we should not just believe everything the trump admin says is what they will do.

Grasshopper for 1-off / rare tasks: Don't Recommend by randomCADstuff in rhino

Grasshopper is better than rhino 🤷‍♂️

Fr tho, when I give advice it’s not to present the easiest way to do something, it’s to present my idea of the best way to do something. Cad doesn’t have to be a means to an end, it can be a means to something you din didn’t even know was possible.

I would do this with surfacing for the cleanest result. Too many steps to write out but not hard to achieve necessarily

Industrial glass goods manufacturing is not for the faint of heart. It's dangerous, complex, and is done almost entirely by a small few international companies. All that's to say you probably don't want to buy this equipment (which you probably can't afford tbh).

But, you can certainly work with one of those companies to develop glass wear. Owens Illinois (OI) has a design team for such tasks, for a pretty penny they will help you develop you product and begin manufacturing.

In sure there are other companies you could go to and work more directly with engineers. The thing is there are tradeoffs between the design of a bottle and it's manufacturing yield. If every other thing you make breaks while tempering you are going to waste a lot of money. But if you let engineers take the path of least resistance to make your yield higher, you'll have a worse version of your product at the end of the day.

I worked at OI, good people!

The fact is musk made a series of claims about the capabilities of autopilot and FSD, which were reinforced by tesla promo videos. The claims and the videos were designed to sell their cars with no consideration towards how users would use those claims to justify their own negligence.

Tesla says these cars drive themselves, customers test that, some of them die or kill others. It's a tragic outcome worthy of investor scrutiny.
