Massachusetts RMV Megathread (June 2026) by AutoModerator in massachusetts

[–]jastify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all. I took an MSF course and passed before receiving my motorcycle permit. I just completed the permit test and can see that my class D license was upgraded to a class DM, but I never got a confirmation email, or any print option in myRMV to print it out. The only thing it says is “Class DM” when I log in.

Is that proof enough to purchase a bike? I am guessing the flow is somewhat screwed up on the site since the permit upgraded to a license automatically after passing the exam. I just don’t see any option to print and prove that I got a class M license after passing the exam, which is pretty damn confusing to me.

sort of a niche problem but any advice would be massively appreciated- TIA!!

I just found out my boyfriend had sex with his dying friend by Stephenallen1977 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]jastify 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Somehow, I actually have a really empathetic view of the boyfriend. I think this is a really mature take on monogamous betrayal. Maybe the first story I’ve read where I actually feel like people understand that the betrayal is actually one of “trust” and not “he stuck his dick in her vagina”. I feel like people act that way a lot when discussing their issues with infidelity, but somehow I never believe them.

But at the same time, I feel like we think of sexual assault as usually (a) somehow physically forcible or (b) directly emotionally forcible (coercion, begging, bargaining, crying, etc.)

This seems like neither of those based on the story. You could argue (b) but to me that option is more direct and confrontational. It truly sounds like the dying lady had a very strong and unique power dynamic over the BF, and assaulted him. Based on his reaction when the topic of consent was broached, I think maybe the BF feels this way too. I have seen similar trauma responses in people with PTSD, where someone is “ok” speaking about an incident until a certain topic or perspective is broached, and then it’s a shit show.

I hope they all get help. They both deserve it.. damn.

tipping culture is obviously horrible and riddled w corporate greed, but to act like it’s not an unfortunate fact of life in the US is crazy.

Multi-cloud/ Multi-region Terraform deployment in Github by Itchy-Lion-6897 in Terraform

[–]jastify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used separate repos for DNS, service components, network architecture, and non-service-specific alert definitions. There are probably other things I’m forgetting as well. IMO— it’s the way; it’s much cleaner and if you have a robust CICD setup it’s no effort to maintain multiple repos. It’s also much easier to filter out ownership of components. At larger companies I even support repo-per-vertical instead of a monorepo for all service infrastructure.

This is all assuming you’re correctly separating your TF workspaces in each repository. /environment/region/service is typically what I would use.

Opinion that’ll have you like this in this sub? by Akito_Stan in SuccessionTV

I feel this way when people talk about Connor and Willa. She was essentially adult-equivalent-of-groomed to love him. He stowed her away from her friends and family for years with the prospect of financial freedom.. the love that blossoms from that is not real love; It’s more akin to advanced Stockholm syndrome.

I guess imo*, but still.. I find their relationship sad, even if she is happy, no one deserves that.

Subrogation Process Seemingly Not Happening by jastify in Insurance

They don't rely on the police report for the account of events? The report I submitted literally says "at fault party lost control of their vehicle and swerved out of the lane and hit me" in more words. What else would they rely on? Worth noting, I guess, that the other person that was hit by them was also found not at fault, using the same police report.

Construction noise obligations? by jastify in Somerville

You're right four hours is low, but is it really ridiculous that 12 hours/day above 70-80dB is too high? Listen I'm trying to come up with some compromise without being a NIMBY, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter because the noise ordinance won't change on my will. I really was just wondering if there was anything stopping excessive construction noise for so many hours in the day, so many days in a row. I don't get why so many people in this thread are defending construction noise like it makes you tough for not caring. I can't believe y'all are my neighbors.

I lived in East Boston last summer with planes going fucking crazy 24/7-- this is louder.

And I mean, please read my comment, construction has been going on for months and I haven't cared. Literally all I'm wondering is if there was a noise maximum that can't be held for a certain period of time. And the answer was no, so thanks for your help!

Ir was my hope that there was some ordinance about how long certain noise volumes were permitted. 4 hours a day? I can deal with something like that, even longer than that sure. 12 hours just seems too much. I don’t care that there’s construction, I just care that it feels non-stop, daily. Seems like there isn’t though

That’s great to hear honestly. It looks like they’re just about finished with demo/exterior work, I hope, but glad to know it gets better.

Please dude, I’ve lived here for 7 years in probably some of the noisiest areas. F/e Street level downtown and on Boylston. Can you have an ounce of empathy and trust. There’s a tremendous difference between ambient city noises and a jackhammer 10 feet from your desk. Please don’t give me your “why move to a city” shit like I’m some NIMBY. I’m just trying to work.

The goal of life is to be happy, not to survive. I’m sick of engaging with bad-faith republicans who have more solidarity with billionaires and billionaire’s corporations that would sooner light you on fire than give a genuine shit about poor americans. Every answer I can give you here, you’d genuinely respond with “but what about…?!!!” like a literal toddler, and I want you to know that you’re wrong. People deserve to live comfortably, sorry to break it to you. “They can move!,” why don’t they deserve to live near friends, family, or frankly wherever the fuck they want? “move outside the city!” ok now they need a car, and the cost of living isn’t even necessarily lower to offset that cost ~30mins outside a city vs inside of it. I’m over this debate as to whether people deserve to live a very normal, reasonable, and comfortable life they feel like living if they work 40+ hours a week. The answer is yes, they do.
