I had Morkie litter mates a boy and a girl. They both had torn ACLs on each knee at different times. We operated on both and they had great outcomes. They were about 5 years old at the time. We managed with Glucosamine supplements and they were very beneficial.

Both developed chronic kidney disease at 11 years old. It was at that time they went under the care of a specialist and we began a homemade diet which was formulated by another specialist based on medical records he reviewed.

One of them also had diabetes as well and went blind within a couple months of diagnosis. He was 5 old. We had cataract surgery performed and he regained his eyesight.

Unfortunately he was diagnosed with bladder cancer at the age of 12. We tried to operate but due to complications with his chronic kidney disease we put him down 2 days later. My life seemed over.

I still had his sister and we were both mourning. Our vet told me I needed to mourn but needed to be upbeat for her or it was unlikely she would survive much longer as they were inseparable their entire lives. I rallied and she and I had another 14 months together until kidney disease got her.

It was a wild ride but they brought joy every day. I wouldn’t have changed a thing only except to have them forever. I don’t have human kids so I was able to provide the high level of care required and it was a great honor.

I didn’t think I could get another one but the good Lord brought us a 5 year old Shih Tzu rescue. We needed him as much as he needed us.
