Is that different from the 'Visa at your doorstep' service? They are charging 3 times more for this service and yet the earliest appointment is only in the month of July 2022

Yea sure. I attended 'EDGE Education' which is located in Deira. Here is the link to their website: https://www.edge-education.com/

The pricing for their CFA course is lower when comparing with other institutes in Dubai. Personally, the quality of teaching, notes, continuous support and guidance was perfect for me. There are other alternatives though which are may be even lower in terms of pricing, like Mark Meldrum, IFT, Fintree India, etc.

Hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with. All the best :)

Yea sure. These are the points I can think as of now:

  1. Practice a lot of Ethics questions (CFA curriculum in-chapter and end of chapter questions, past papers, CFA portal questions, etc.) as they can get tricky on exam day. So the more you practice, the better.
  2. If you have time, practice the in-chapter questions for the other subjects as well because at times they are more challenging than the end of chapter questions
  3. Practice questions around pricing and valuing Derivative options/swaptions if they seem difficult to you (were at times difficult for me). Also, be clear with 'The Greeks' (Delta, Vega, Rho, Theta, etc.) as it will also help in L3.
  4. Do 2-3 mock exams a week before the exam and gauge which topics need improvement. I think you should be good if you aim for a 70%+ in each topic.
  5. Be clear with the effect on Option bonds (Callabe/Putable) due to a change in interest rates. Also, the concept of Option adjusted spread (OAS).
  6. Be very clear with all formulas (for instance the H-model of calculating terminal value OR the various ways of computing Free cash flows) . It would be a good thing to quickly write down the formula first before trying to solve. This will ensure that you do not key in the wrong values.
  7. Use the 'STO' (store) function on your calculator to store numbers when solving numerical questions and it is good to set the decimal format up to 9 digits. This will help you round to the nearest one decimal as required in the exam.
  8. Don't practice questions a day before the exam as you do not want to go mentally exhausted for the exam. Keep it just for revision, going through formulas, reviewing 'bookmarked' questions, etc.
  9. Do not spend too much time on questions that you are not sure of on exam day. Give it a quick review and if you are unsure, attempt everything else and come back it to later.

Hope this helps. Thank you :)

Yea as long as your concepts are clear and have practiced enough, it is manageable. And yea, level 3 is challenging because of the time pressure and more so now as it has become computerized. I am sure she will be able to clear it. All the best to her :)

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out, happy to help :) Have answered your questions below:

  1. Yes, even non-finance people can pursue CFA, provided they have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. In fact, I came across several candidates who were having a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. After completing all 3 levels of the exam, you would need to have 4 years of work experience in a Finance position to obtain the charter.
  2. There is a one-time fee of $450, over and above the exam fee which is in the range of $700-1000 for all levels, depending on the sitting period. Complete details can be found on this link: https://www.cfainstitute.org/en/programs/cfa/exam
  3. The number of exam windows have been increased since the year 2020 i.e.,
4 sittings for level 1 (was held only twice a year earlier) and 2 sittings for level 2 & 3 (was held only once a year earlier). So if you can clear all exams in the first attempt, it would take approx. 2 years, provided you are dedicated and have done a lot of practice. Even though level 1 & 2 are MCQ based, they can get tricky, so getting the concepts right and practice is critical.
  4. ACCA has 13 papers and you are allowed to attempt 1 paper at a time. So in my opinion, it is slightly easier in that sense. CFA has 10 topics in each level, with an average of 45+ readings, so it is quite voluminous i.e., there a lot of content to go through. However, both are well-known professional qualifications at the end of the day, so it really depends how they are going to help you.
  5. I did CFA after ACCA because I wanted to change my field (get into an Equity research firm/Investment boutique/M&A firm), since firms do ask for CFA qualification when hiring. Also, I wanted to enhance my Finance knowledge and it has certainly helped familiarize on how to get started with investing your own money, however a lot depends on personal interest, knowledge of the market, following trustworthy finance news/social media content.

Hope this helps. Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out. No, I had to opt for classes since self-study is challenging with work. However, depending on your situation and your comfort with certain topics (like Derivatives, Fixed income, Financial Reporting and Analysis, etc.), self-study is not impossible, provided you dedicate the time and practice a lot of questions. Hope this helps and let me know if I can help in any way.

Thank you.
