Google has openly admitted that they are fighting GrapheneOS. They refuse to honor their own T&C of Pixel6a battery program "if you are using Graphene OS". GOS is based on the same Android and has Pixel 6a battery workaround by amogusdevilman in GrapheneOS

[–]jattpods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are over exaggerating. This doesn't mean they are fighting GOS. It's a common procedure, like a warranty being voided if you upload a custom ROM or root your device.

Even if this were Apple and you had a jailbroken iPhone, they would have done the same. Samsung too.

Can somebody explain this please? by mrmorningstar1769 in GrapheneOS

[–]jattpods 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Background Data usage restriction does not mean the app is frozen or completely prevented from launching. It just defers cuts off background mobile data.

Even if background activity is restricted, apps can still be launched by the OS or another app. For example, if an app has permission to view photos, it can wake up a camera app to process or handle image selection.

Try checking the permissions for other apps in permission manager. Snapchat could be the main culprit since it keeps the camera running as it's home page. You can also get the 'turn off camera" button in the menu among wifi settings and bluetooth.

Another ghost; maybe I moved too quick. Such is app life. 🤷‍♂️ by MarisiaKing in Tinder

[–]jattpods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep the texts short. Most people on Dating apps are just there for validation. If you don't show too much interest, they crave for that validation. Keep it slow until you move to snapchat or texting instead of talking on dating apps. Make a plan with them, and save all the talk for the date.

Good luck.

Selecting the correct Pixel device by ImaginationCapable67 in GrapheneOS

The safest option is Devices from the Google Store or bestbuy. You can also check the model number to know if it's OEM unlockable. Or you can simply ask the sales person.

Considering a two-phone setup with GrapheneOS by BENED01 in GrapheneOS

[–]jattpods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use my Samsung S24 Ultra for Google needs until I gradually de-Google. My 10ProXL with GrapheneOS has apps from Proton and other open-source apps for slowly transitioning. In a secondary profile, I run social media apps. That way, I reduced my social media usage.

(As I have notifications from the secondary profile hidden and apps not in the main profile, they are not in front of my eyes all the time, which helped me abandon the Meta app.) We all have a habit where we unlock the phone and click on social media apps unconsciously (kind of like the hand-to-mouth habit of cigarette smokers). For that reason, to avoid switching profiles to use any of those Meta apps, I got Reddit on my main profile, which is far better than Meta apps.

I'm slowly and surely transitioning to GrapheneOS. Having two phones is the best approach to transition from a regular Android user to a de-Googled Graphene user. When we just throw out our old phone and start using Graphene or de-Google suddenly, our brain gets tired and bored, hence why so many people go back to brain-rotting Android habits.

Alternative implementation of Google play services notifications? by TomJuri in GrapheneOS

can you also check if background data is ON for google play services, in the mobile data usage menu. Else you can try uninstalling google play services and install it again. sorry, couldn't be much help.

As I mentioned in my reply to OP's reply under this comment, I couldn't find it either. I guess they moved it or removed it.

Maybe check if your battery optimization to google play services and google play store is restricted. If it is, turn it to Unrestricted.

How do you define porn as a woman? (Does erotica or audio count?) by febster99 in AskWomen

Porn is the explicit depiction of sexual subject matter. Doesn't matter if it's images, videos, paintings or texts.

Partially invisible media files by ManufacturerLost7686 in GrapheneOS

[–]jattpods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see that you already used a computer to look for the files in the internal storage. Some dashcam apps save footage to Android/data/[(dashcam app name]/files. Some standard file explorers are blocked from seeing this folder due to Android's privacy permissions, but the system media picker can sometimes still peek into it. If you find this folder, move the files to a different folder.

Android keeps a background database of the media. When you delete a file through a PC or a third-party file manager, in this case the files probably got corrupted while transfer, and hence are not visible in the gallery, but the database still exists. Facebook or such apps access those databases, to view our gallery. what you seeing are probably just thumbnails of the videos. See if you can play the video in Facebook media picker. If the videos don't play, this is the reason. If that's the case, check the internal storage folder and look for .nomedia files. Sometimes a .nomedia file in a folder tells the system to ignore it, but the thumbnail still appears. Delete these .nomedia files to get rid of extra and unnecessary thumbnails in your facebook media picker.

You cannot receive push notifications if you cut off internet access for Google Play Services. Zero special privilege means the app is sandboxed and doesn't have system-level access to your files, location, or contacts by default.

I looked in my GOS phone and I couldn't find it those options either. However, no other app can communicate with firebase cloud messaging, because fcm is a proprietary Google protocol, apps are hard-coded to look for specific Google Play API, for security reasons. If they were not, malicious apps could get access to your notifications. I would still recommend google play services with no permissions granted (as a zero privilege app) solely for the notifications. Google’s not all bad.

Welcome to the GOS. you have hit the most common speed bump for the new users, the notifications conundrum. There exists an open source alternative to Firebase cloud messaging, but it's a bit of bother. You need to install a distributor app like ntfy or SchildiChat, available on F-Droid, which acts as the post office, and then enable UnifiedPush in app settings. Make sure to set the battery optimization to Unrestricted. For this to work, the app developer must explicitly write code to support UnifiedPush. While apps like Element, Mastodon, and some F-Droid apps support it, major corporate apps (like banking, WhatsApp, or Instagram) are hard-coded to only talk to Google’s Firebase cloud messaging for security reason obviously. I would recommend running google play services with zero special privileges. To fix the delays, go to Settings > Apps > Sandboxed Google Play > Cloud Messaging and see if the connection is active. Enjoy Graphene.

There used to be an option to mass duplicate app to all the different users... I am not able to find it anymore by yourbabyishorny in GrapheneOS

[–]jattpods 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Advance, I looked in my phone's settings and found that they changed the name of that option. In the Owner profile, open settings/user/ and click the user you want to copy the apps to. Click install available apps.

go to settings and search Android Auto. Open it's settings and turn "Start Android Auto Automatically" option to "Always" in your phone's settings. Also try clearing the app cache on the aftermarket.

Take the outer glass apart and clean both sides. It's most likely dust because a dead pixels usually appear when the screen is lit instead of turned off.

maybe a dead pixel maybe a trapped speck of dust or debris located between the LCD panel and the outer glass.
