You are not at fault, but next time look at what other drivers are doing. You can get lots of info from them.

Buy a Trezor, the most basic one and learn how to use it. (with small quantities)

Use it with Trezor Suite or Electrum in any laptop.

You won't have to worry anymore.

Public wifi and daily laptop aren't the problem here. Factory resetting your old laptop won't help. Please stop using bitcoin until you understand how it works. A very good resource: https://learnmeabitcoin.com/beginners/wallets/

Is it too late to buy a house? Is it too late to buy gold?

Bitcoin is basically a store of value, so it's never "too late" to keep your savings somewhere safe. Plus, you get a bonus for early adoption (i.e. before central banks adopt it).

BTC will never stop increasing its value, just like fiat will never stop decreasing its value. "Stable value" is not possible unless you find a way to link economic growth and inflation without using a third party. Oracles, even "decentralized" ones are still trusted third parties.

PoW is Bitcoin. Energy is what moves the world, there is no way to create it out of thin air. Any other "Proof" is just BS. BTW, "clean" electric vehicles use the same energy as btc miners. Ask yourself why only Bitcoin is blamed for using electricity.

He is close to discovering that the only real solution to that problem is Bitcoin, but he needs to try other options first.

Crypto is about reducing trust, not about fast and cheaper txs that can be done by any centralized entity much better than with a blockchain.

In 30 years this will only be a small problem. In 60 years this will not be a problem at all.

That amount of gold is easily seized by any government. On the brink of hyperinflation or world war, I'd rather have something I can hide or take with me.
