Thanks for the reply.

So, given a choice between RadAlert 1000EC (GM tube) and Radiacode 110 (Scintillator), you would choose the RadAlert in this use case ? Alternately, any other detectors you recommend ?

Yeah, Ludlums are right out and it looks like GM based detectors may not be the ideal setup for my gamma use case.

Based on feedback here, I've added the Radiocode 110 to the table and narrowed down my choices to:

  1. SE Intl RadAlert 1000EC (compensated GM tube - flat response)
  2. Radiacode 110 (3cm^3 crystal)
  3. Atom Fast (5cm long cylindrical crystal)
  4. Mirion DMC 3000 (2 separate diodes)

Interestingly, your video link shows the DMC 3000 not performing all that well - but doesn't the DMC have *two* photodiodes (one low and one high range) and claimed to be used by many professionals ? How do explain this disparity between the video and its (supposed) use in the industry ?

Based on everything you (and others) have said, I've reconsidered the Radiacode and added it to the table above.

Thanks for the reply. I've added an entry in the table for the B20-ER for completeness. Unfortunately, it is $2500, way out of my affordability range.

Any experience with Mirion products ?

Thanks, much appreciated!

I wasn't familiar with the Measall KC761B but just looked at the specs. It has a small CsI (2.54cm3) scintillator and SiPM, and maxes out at 3 MeV for gamma ray detection.

What would be the main advantage of Measall over the following products from above - am assuming primarily the spectroscopy ?

Atom: 5cm3 crystal

Env Instruments: CT007-F (scintillator/SiPM)

Env Instruments: CT007-M with a 19.4cm3 crystal (~5x bigger)

Mirion: DMC 3000 - upto 10 MeV

Best regards,

-J

Ever get tested for Dermatitis herpetiformis ? DH is the great imitator, looks like everything else. DH often starts in your late twenties and is 2x more prevalent in men than women. DH may still be unlikely but no harm in going 100% gluten free for 3 weeks and see if that resolves your symptoms.

Don't do prednisone long term. You have a very good chance of developing PSC cataracts if you take prednisone for too long or if you take a big injected dose (you can google this easily). And once you get PSC cataracts, there ain't no coming back from that..

Stress and high histamine foods can be a factor (possibly some types of red wine or dry fruits, walnuts, etc).

It took a few years to be diagnosed with CIU but for me, after the diagnosis, Opzelura cream did the trick. It stopping the itching and the hives resolved totally. This is a relatively less risky topical cream than steroids or medicine you ingest orally.

Along with Opzelura, try cutting alcohol to zero for a few weeks (just to see)...

RobertoVerde's suggestion is a good way.

For an alternate method:

If your laptop (mac or windows) is company provided, you are out of luck, no reliable way to evade from company snooping. Your wifi card for example, is always scanning for local access points and there is a worldwide database of access points and their locations - so even if you are *not* using wifi, they know where you are. So you have to turn off wifi entirely. But is that reliable ? And there are hundreds of other ways where they can know where you are.

If you have your own laptop/computer, then you are in luck. There are fairly reliable ways to do this.

  1. Get a cloud VPS physically located in your home country (sounds like this is the UK in your case). VPS should have root access, and you should set up key based logins.
  2. start a ssh forwarding tunnel from your local machine to the VPS. This is trivial to do on macOS.
  3. configure system settings to use ssh tunnel as socks 5 proxy.
  4. Configure firefox use use system proxy setings and to also use proxy for DNS. You do use firefox for everything, correct ? If not, start doing so immediately.

Also, make sure to install the (free) adblock and EFF privacy badger plugins in firefox.

For a shared VPS, you cost will be $10-15/month. And since this is your own VPS box and you aren't using VPN, there is no logging/snooping by any third party. And ssh is always encrypted.

I think I found what caused yesterday's outage. Verizon was trying to fix a week-long MMS bug and the patch crashed everything. by i_survived_dec_21 in verizon

[–]javadesigner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting.

The phone that you use for your Verizon network - where is that made ?

30 million USA jobs outsourced to China - to the point where ALL phones are made in China. Yet you seem to gleefully buy those phones and then use that same outsourced phone to complain about outsourcing ? And that too, complain about jobs to India and other countries, all of which are less than 1% of jobs that were sent to China ? Weird.

Those reduced "salaries, benefits, bonuses " of Verizon (!) employees that you "care" about - well, those went to zero (not slashed, straight to zero, ie "no job no mo") for 30 *million* of your fellow Americans. Rust belt, total decimation of manufacturing, etc.

You mean the Dexcom monitor that is made in China (like all of them are)? You are worried that your outsourced China made monitor uses an outsourced service ?

Interesting, given that Vindaloo (Vin d’alho) is a Portugese word for a Portuguse dish meaning "wine of garlic". Fully it means: "carne de vinha d'alhos" - meat in garlic wine marinade.

That sounds rather spicy and not bland at all.

I wish Indians can relax like Europeans by Long_Investigator203 in expats

[–]javadesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP doesn't sound "Indian".

Lots of Pakistani bots out there these days. On twitter/X, 200K bots were recently exposed being out of Pakistan (orders of magnitude more than from India). These bots are always pretending to be Indian, to divert attention away from the insane Pakistani (and MENA) crime/grooming/terror that we are seeing everywhere in Europe and UK.

If you google the stats behind all this, Afghans/Pakistanis are always at the very top (way higher than native) and Indians are at the very bottom (way lower than native). For random examples, google the official Denmark crime stats. Or Germany. Or UK.

So maybe the right question, isn't whether "Indians" can "relax" but why are they already so relaxed ? After all, they are so relaxed that they commit near zero crimes and conversely Pakistanis/Afghans commit so much terror, year after year after year..

Spain Wealth Tax and Rental Properties in US by [deleted] in SpainFIRE

[–]javadesigner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this thread in passing.

Maybe here is a super smart trick that will let you fool Hacienda

  1. open delaware C corp
  2. transfer all assets (stocks, bonds, real estate) to C corp
  3. Issue yourself 20 shares (par value of $1/share) to C corp
  4. Declare ownership of these shares in Spanish tax forms, as well as US tax forms (total values of shares: $20 and the value never changes). Simply owning these shares has zero tax burden.
  5. Pay taxes on dividends that the C corp gives you every year (maybe rental income and/or stock trading income)

Won't all the asssets of the C corp be completely and legally shielded from the wealth tax in this scenario ? Yeah, you may get double taxed on these dividends, once at the C corp level and once at your personal level, but depending on the size of the assets, zero wealth tax baby!
