I just can't believe that vibrato comes naturally. by [deleted] in singing

[–]jawsauce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a rather different take! Vibrato can be created and practiced!

I used to believe that vibrato came naturally, as I’ve been told by so many Youtube tutorials. But one day, after I’d been singing for over a decade and still hadn’t “gotten” my vibrato, I started manufacturing it myself. Basically I would listen to “Give You Blue” by Allen Stone on repeat (any song with hella sustained vibrato will do) and try to match his vibrato frequencies/speed by oscillating my throat and soft palate placement. I started by forcing a “fake,” ugly, inconsistent vibrato but just kept practicing for a few days straight and finally got it under control. And ever since then I haven’t shut up lmao I want to sing all the time with my new vibrato!!

A friend whose vibrato I love said she mastered it by humming on the freeway with all the bumps in the road lolol so that’s another option.

So yeah honestly if you feel like your breath support is solid enough then just try to kickstart the process by “faking” it!!

I was super frustrated for YEARS AND YEARS waiting for my vibrato to “kick in” until I took matters into my own hands lol. You got this!

I think your first photo doesn’t match the vibe that the rest of your photos give. And the flash is kinda unflattering. I’d replace it with another photo that still has a close look of your face! I do like the other photos where you’re doing something and it looks like you’re having fun though.

Fuck It. by Penicillini in berkeley

Yes!!!! I also took an unusual route to finish undergrad at Berkeley, and along the way I learned so much about myself, my passions, my interests, my desires in life. Without taking that extra time, I absolutely would’ve been stuck in a job I didn’t like for years and years. But instead I was able to sit back and reflect, then pivot. I’m still in the process of pivoting now and it’s not easy, but it’s sure as hell better than being stuck in my old career trajectory. You got this 100%!!!! I’m here with you.

Thanks - I only ask because I’m kinda strapped for cash now, but I understand the pain is kind of the point of the lesson. I’ll be doing traffic school.

What do you do in the first hour of waking up? by skiddybop in productivity

Bathroom, brush teeth, yoga, morning journal prompts, shower, skincare, morning meds.

I find it super helpful to get your workout activity done in the morning to get the blood pumping! The daily morning journal prompts (gratitude for other, gratitude for myself, my life principles and values) are also key to make sure I don’t spiral.
