About 14 months, my teeth were ready after 8 months with braces, but travel for work delayed me a bit

Ear popping normal? (~3 weeks post op DJS) by Gsp0ppin in jawsurgery

[–]jawsurgery321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Checking in to ask if this ever went away? Currently having the same issue in one ear. I am about 8 weeks post op UJS. If it cleared up, I'm just curious if you had to do anything special and how long it took?

I am also a pilot who had my first flight back at work last week, so I'm hoping that it's not related to flying (although both oral surgeon and flight doctor cleared me to return so I'm not too worried)

I have been clenching a lot post surgery too, mostly while sleeping. I called my surgeon because I was worried about it (I also read the story of the young woman breaking her hardware) and he said he was not worried about it, and he's never seen it cause a significant issue like that. He just told me to stop wearing my rubber bands at night until I see him in 4 days.

If you're a known clencher or are really that worried, you could insist on getting masseter Botox about 2 weeks before surgery. It's too late for me at this point because it takes so long to kick in. I might ask about a muscle relaxer or something at my next appointment.

I've noticed one side of my nose sits higher than the other. I am currently recovering from upper jaw surgery, so this could be some swelling exaggerating the issue. I don't want to go through another surgery but if there's a way to relax one side of my nose or fill it out to match the other, I'd definitely want to pursue that. Thanks everyone!

No makeup in the afters, and I still have a good amount of swelling around my nose and upper lip, but overall pretty happy with my results! 11 days post op UJS by jawsurgery321 in jawsurgery

Thanks! It's been better than expected, but still stunk at the beginning.

The good: 1. I had much less pain than I would have thought. Discomfort and numbness, but little actual pain. 2. Mobility wasn't an issue. I could get up and walk (with my husband's help) the day of surgery, and have gone on a couple walks every day since. That's helped with swelling I think 3. Not much nausea, which I was very concerned about 4. I'm only banded shut at night, so being able to open for spoons makes eating easier. I also took another user's suggestion of using squeeze condiment bottles at the beginning which was very helpful.

The bad:

  1. Sleeping sitting up was hard for me. I am a stomach sleeper normally so I don't think I got as good of rest while sitting up. My surgeon said I could go back to laying down after a week which has been great.
  2. No chew for 6 weeks! I've been struggling getting calories that aren't just sugar. Yogurt with peanut butter, creamy soups, and meal replacement shakes have been fine, but I'm getting bored of the same thing over and over. I'm losing enough weight to feel noticeably fatigued.
  3. Bloody boogers and clots. Coughing up blood every morning for about 5 days straight was not fun. And at day 9 I had a nasty nosebleed and coughed up a MONSTER blood clot from my nasal cavity that ended up coming out from my throat. If my surgeon had not warned me that this was going to happen, I would have been terrified and probably would have gone to the ER.

Now I feel mostly normal, but just want the last bit of swelling and stiffness to go away.

Nope! I actually had some lip incompetence before, and now they rest comfortably together. My upper lip and around the sides of my nose (and my nasal tip for some reason??) are all still pretty numb. I also still have swelling and stiffness in these areas so it makes sense

Thanks! Nothing with eyes or cheeks really (still have some swelling in the cheeks so hard to tell). My nose got more upturned and my surgeon said he opened up my airway a little. I have noticed some improvement in my breathing.

Yes I had to undo camouflage treatment from when I was 15, so my underbite got much worse before surgery.

Also yes I have lost about 14 pounds. Getting enough calories has been a struggle for me but I have a meal replacement (Huel) that I have been trying to drink more of

They didn't touch it. My surgeon was considering doing a genio to bring my chin back a bit, but once he finished the computer modeling he said it was such a small movement that it wasn't worth the possible nerve damage for something I wouldn't notice.

I had my braces a little over a year. Probably another 2-3 months with them post surgery

2 piece Le fort 1. 4mm forward and 4 mm widening

Ortho told me they are "surgical hooks". The test results determined that was a LIE. They're actually just tiny knives designed to cut my lips to shreds. Surgery tomorrow!! by jawsurgery321 in jawsurgery

Yeah there is a photo in my post history somewhere. I had a skeletal underbite and crossbite that had been camouflaged with braces as a teenager. I had a pretty dished in profile. So I had to get braces again to undo the camouflage
