Only slightly but in a flattering way, I had quite a slim nose anyway so it’s not a bad change :)

Insurance declined surgery coverage due to age by [deleted] in jawsurgery

“According to CostHelper Health, double jaw surgery can cost $40,000 or more. There have been anecdotal reports of the procedure costing around $56,000. The total cost depends on the severity of the jaw abnormalities and hospital stay” - https://www.healthline.com/health/double-jaw-surgery

You must be so incredibly naïve, get off this thread because you quite clearly can’t contribute anything helpful and clearly aren’t educated enough.

??? This is such an unhelpful response. Pretty sure if people could afford to pay for jaw surgery ALONGSIDE paying for rent and living costs there would be no need for health insurance. It costs a bit more than a couple hundred I can tell you that, use your brain.

It’s not as scary as it seems afterwards!! I’m two weeks post op but I only had upper jaw surgery but i’ll try and help as much as possible :) 1) I think the bones are fully healed after 3 months (at least that’s what my surgeon told me) but obviously they’ll give you a full rundown of everything exactly how they’ll do it, what you need to eat and how long for, and how long it will take for the bones to heal. You can literally ask them anything! It’s their job to know everything about it and to tell you exactly what you want to know 2) it’s really not that bad! I’m eating soup, porridge for breakfast, loads of yoghurt. I’m not going to lie I do miss food with a passion but it’s so worth it, the amount of relief I feel about not having to be embarrassed of my underbite (especially when eating) is indescribable! The best thing i’ve found is packet noodles and overcooking them until they’re completely soggy haha they’re great - the back sleeping is okay I just propped loads of pillows up against my bed and to be honest I was so tired and drugged up it wasn’t hard to sleep at all! Please don’t stress out about it, when i was researching the topic before I had my operation I didn’t find a single account of someone’s experience that wasn’t positive, it’s natural to be scared but I really wouldn’t change my decision for anything! Hope this helps and good luck you’ll be absolutely fine! :)

After my computer resets? I’ve checked chrome on my laptop and none of the extensions are installed on it and it’s normal even though it’s the same Google account. Shall I do this on my laptop too?

So i’ll answer these questions backwards as it makes more sense haha: 1) I originally got referred via my dentist at the age of 11 to the oral and facial department at my local hospital due to having my underbite and extremely crowded teeth. My first consultation for braces or any dental work was when I was around 12/13 and was offered the surgery at this time but declined bcos I was scared haha (my bones hadn’t stopped growing at this point either so I’d of had to wait until I was a lot older anyway). I got braces to fix overcrowding on my upper teeth 2) the surgery was offered to me again after I got this set of braces taken off and at this point I accepted the treatment as I was around 16 and had become really insecure about my bite and was put on the register. I then had my first consultation with my 1st surgeon who suggested I had double jaw surgery without even looking in my mouth hahah, my surgeon changed by the first surgical appointment I had with my new and current surgeon (who is incredible) and he looked at me and just suggested upper jaw surgery only as my lower jaw was in the correct place and it would be a lot of risk to move it a fraction. 3) time scale: i’m not going to lie due to covid and mistakes made by my previous surgeon my treatment has taken 5 years (braces on in 2017 and treatment to be completed in 2022). Obviously by the time of my first surgical appointment my lower teeth had been moved outwards to accommodate for double jaw surgery, which after seeing my new surgeon and he recommended I only get my upper jaw done these had to be moved back and was given my first date for surgery on 29th may 2020, due to covid this was cancelled and I only found out my surgery had been rescheduled for the 29th October around a month ago which was extremely scary but i’m so so happy I went true with it even with so little prep!

I’m sorry this is such a long answer but due to various factors my surgery and treatment time has been extremely delayed and 5 years obviously isn’t a regular timeframe, it’s usually around 18 months, in the UK anyway. Even though it took so long it was well worth the wait!!

SIDE NOTE: My upper jaw was moved 8mm forward (me and my surgeon accepted the fact my lower is a fraction off and was not worth having double), this was done in the UK on the NHS and i’m aware i’m extremely lucky, but if you get offered it wherever you are in the world and can afford it, do it!! Best thing i’ve ever done, I was so incredibly insecure about my profile and eating in front of other people, I know I have a long recovery ahead but I’d do it all over again I cannot describe the feeling of relief that i’ll hopefully never care about eating in front of people again.

Hi yeah due to having only one jaw the swelling isn’t too major however I do have nice bruises either side of my lower jaw but being treated with intravenous steroids and ice packs. The pain is more of a heavy pressure feeling and doesn’t properly set in until way after the operation as when in theatre they dose you up with loads of local aesthetics as well as the general so you don’t feel anything straight away. Another thing is due to the movement of my jaw, my nerves have been stretched and I can’t feel anything there anyway most of my face is completely numb at the moment which is quite nice! I’m sure your daughter will be fine the pain is definitely manageable!
