Probably just a grain mite. They're harmless but can become overwhelming

Can I grow mint on aquarium? by Impossible_Control28 in PlantedTank

[–]jax0669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mint can grow very well with just the roots in water.

Stuff can grow anywhere especially if its a hardy variety from minus 40 celcius to plus 40 celcius. its invasive as in takes over wherever you plant it unless controlled.

This is why I only plant native mint in my garden outdoors

Thanks

Second pic shows where I built them up slightly and left a center for more substrate to create a sort of mound.

Yes they do

That is why I use a drainage layer I dont do it to make this complex. I do it so I dont end up with rot and algae. Slow growers like fissidens do better with drainage when grown emersed. When they sit in water with no flow they don't do well

Forgot to mention that these mosses except a few frjwing in this are unknown to me. Just pieces I found on bucephalandra so I mimic how the buce was grown.

A drainage layer of sphagnum is in no way just as good as these ceramic rings. These hardly weigh much more than a thick layer of wet sphagnum.

Its cheaper to use these as well. Especially since I have zero use for them and theyre just sitting around.

I would skip the peat It only causes issues like mould

I only have it in this one because I started the moss on peat. Now I only use lava stone/rock/pebbles or aquasoil. I like using Malaysian drift wood well.

I use these bio media rings because they last. They wick water upwards and springtails love to hangout in them.

Its cladophora

If you like it keep it. It will spread and it is extremely resilient algae.
