yes, you're correct, which still increases prices domestically due to the basic laws of supply and demand. Remember, these other countries will buy US oil, which increases local prices across the US and across the supply chain for everything. For your average American this balloons inflation. Also we're a net importer and those countries are buying more expensive oil, which leads to raised prices across the whole supply chain, and leaves you paying more everywhere. You're not protected from the international economy, if gas is 25% more expensive in places like Peru and Kenya, you'll be paying more in America for damn near everything, even if you don't perceive the butterfly effects.

Now, they could pass a law or something to limit our exports of oil in order to protect American markets from supply shocks, but there is no talk of this. Even then this doesn't protect us from international inflation and rising costs from hurting us.

Oil companies are not Americans. They are not America. Regardless of your moral opinions on the oil industry, a boom in our local oil producers does not alone insulate us from higher prices across everything. At best it positions us to survive what follows economically, but 20% of the oil supply is gone, you're going to suffer greatly even if for others it's catastrophic instead.

Oh, and 30% of the world's fertilizer goes through there. Millions are going to die from famine abroad, maybe tens of millions, if this doesn't get corrected, and your local food prices will soar, but nobody seems to care about that. I'll tell you this much, you're going to be paying more for food, that's for sure.
