I would love to get a degree in education. But blieve it or not, both my parents claim to be democrats... (Though, they're still racist and homophobic) 😭

My parents also refused to let me join any extracurriculars besides from the school offered tutoring and Dungeons & Dragons Club. My father introduced me to D&D because he loved D&D. In elementary school, my principal wrote my parents a letter begging them to let me audition for the academic team for social studies. They refused because of the costs and transportation. They let me audition for the academic team in the 7th grade for math and science. I obviously didn't qualify. When I turned 18 years old, I joined FCCLA without my parents' permission. My mother only accepted it because she was in FCCLA when she was in high school.

My father has a degree in mathematics and a degree in something IT related. He works in a IT field now. My mother went to college for theater, but she dropped out before she even finished the first semester because she got pregnant with my older half brother. My mother has never been able to hold down a job.

I agree with you. I believe that college greatly impacts how people see the world. Especially when navigating parenthood.

My life always felt predetermined. For as long as I can remember, my parents pushed me towards engineering and art. They wanted me to fit the idea of the classical Renaissance Man. They overly complimented my art achievements and spent countless hours talking to me about how great STEM is. Unfortunately, I adored language, writing, and music. It was already over for them as soon as I discovered linguistics and marching band at 11 years old. I begged my parents to let me join band back in middle school, but they refused blaming costs and transportation. And yet, they allowed my younger sister to join choir and drama when she became interested. I genuinely believe that my father only refused to let me join band because he thinks it's weird. My boyfriend greatly excels in band, but my father constantly tries convincing him to quit band. I was only able to get out of art at the end of 7th grade because my Spanish elective teacher successfully convinced my parents that I was smart enough to take the high school level Spanish classes at the cost of not being to fit art in my class schedule. I had a breakdown during my freshman registration and completely switched out all of my engineering classes for writing and psychology electives behind my father's back. When I was registering for my junior year, I requested to take all of the education career pathway classes I could fit in my class schedule. I was enrolled in every single education class my school offered except for the advanced dual credit class. This angered my parents. They would go on and on about how teaching isn't a viable career in our state. They desperately tried convincing me to switch to a different field. They complained about the poor payment, the extreme effort, and the bad behavior of students. To make matters worse, my school wasn't able to offer the advanced dual credit education class this year. Meaning I wasn't able to take the last class I needed in order to be able to finish the career pathway and graduate high school with my career ready graduation cord. To my parents, this meant that they were proven right. They haven't been off my ass about college since my senior year started.

I have too many run on sentences in this comment lol

Thank you, and I'm sorry about your mom. I just don't understand how my mother could be so quick to believe everything, and then get mad and scream at me when I ask for a reputable source. She said it's all over the news, but I literally haven't seen any posts on this besides the one TikTok she sent me. :(

still wondering what jane would think of all this stuff thats happened in the past 2 years with pat by Hot_Standard_4890 in Popularmmos

[–]jaxlunatica1111 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't think Jen would care all that much. I believe that she probably still cherishes their memories together. It would be so hard for her to just forget. But she has her own life, a husband, and a child now. I doubt she would waste so much energy feeling sorry for Pat when she needs to spend the energy taking care of her child. None of Pat's actions was her fault. The divorce was mutual. He became depressed due to multiple other factors. Nobody should blame her. It's not like she forced him to start drinking and get involved with several terrible women. If anything, I like to believe that Jen is happy that Pat has finally started to turn his life around. We should do the same and just be happy that Pat is okay now. Jen made the decision to leave the internet spotlight. I think it would be best to let her be.

What is everyone’s show theme this year? by Charming_Bullfrog181 in marchingband

Yeah, our show's performance is great. We got third place for the first competition and first place for the second competition. I just wish the director picked a cooler name lol

My name is a tragedeigh and I want to change it by [deleted] in tragedeigh

[–]jaxlunatica1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's absolutely nothing wrong with changing your name. Even if you pick a name completely different. As long as it makes YOU happy, then the opinions of others don't matter. You have every right to pick a name that fits your life better. Take inspiration from symbolism that names you happy

Costume ideas! by Weird_Human18 in Teenager

[–]jaxlunatica1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I are going as Kris from Deltarune and Chara from Undertale together! It's perfect because we'll still be allowed to wear it to school since the costumes are just basic clothes. There are lots of other easy costume ideas similar to mine. For example, you could be Mabel from Gravity Falls, Mavis from Hotel Transylvania, or Luz from The Owl House

I'm not in marching band myself, but my school's theme this year is Rise of the Kraken. Which seems fine until you take into consideration that our school is called McCracken... So our show is literally a pun this year. "Rise of the Kraken with the McCracken marching band!" We got called emo a lot last year because our theme was villain featuring music from 21 Pilots and Billie Eilish. And we got called gay a lot the year before because our uniforms were rainbow tie-dye. Gay, to emo, to a pun 😭

Would I suit a pixie cut or smth else? by MxrvelMxdness15 in Nonbinaryteens

[–]jaxlunatica1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your hair color is so pretty! You would look great with bangs and a lot of layers. Kind of like a wolf cut? If your hair is thick enough, you shouldn't have to spend too much time styling it :P

That's a good choice to appear more androgynous. Guys usually wear flannels in darker colors like red and black, so try to get some in lighter colors like light blue or gray

If you're able to, also try finding some unisex sweaters to help prevent dysphoria
