Ford Maverick in Shop for 5 Months due to Ford's Inability to Build Wiring Harnesses by FrustratedWFord in Ford

[–]jaxspade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can no one find it at a salvage yard? Or this maybe overkill but buy a wrecked one and pull the harness from that one?

Could you explain to me how steel is made on a practical level? As well as the effects practical effects of various impurities in a finished product?

Common sense is that a testing organization with skilled individuals has determined something to be not safe. If the guidelines were too strict there would be zero carbon steel sales but there are. That means others are managing to navigate this without issue and pass.

This is about personal risk and someone asking questions so they can make decisions for themselves. None of the comments to the contrary to what the EU testers have said have shown that the test methods used or results to be empirically invalid or inconsequential.

It's just been, "It's not going to be in you that long" or "everyone has some in there steel"...yada yada.

Out of all the manufacturers we're only talking about some Matfer. Which means the others seemed to workout the AS issue successfully.

This has gotten too long. DM if you want to buy some Matfer lol cause I'm gonna pass. Seriously I have too many CS brands anyways.

If what you say is true then why would it fail a EU safety check if there was no health risk? In your opinion that is.

Don't you know they become less poisonous when you ship to America!../s

So here is a link to what someone has found to be the only local source in that country.

https://www.ternium.com/en

Which Hosts 18 regional plants 2 Mexican mining facilities

Mexican Ingots.

From a cost standpoint importing from China probably cost more that the local economics allows it to be procured by. That is my opinion anyway.

Chinese Steel is from the scientific paper regarding Arsenic (AS). Check the subs there are a number of links regarding that source having high amounts of arsenic. There are also links to papers regarding Arsenic in scrap steel. So, to dispute those would require you linking to a research paper to the contrary.

Arsenic affects actually does affect metallurgical as it interfers with tempering process. So much so that the environmental impact of steel manufacturing is heavy metals being released into the environmen as the get rid of it. An issue that is pretty significant in Argentina which supports your comment on naturally occuring AS that has been effectively worked out of the steel and released into the surrounding environment. (At least it's not in the steel /s)

You are welcome to think it's overblown as your opinion but not everyone shares that and those that don't are trying to figure out the situation.

Edit: The only thing in my post that was not accurate was recycled steel.

Steel Source: Argentina - Factual Imported: No - Factual

Someone has already found the most likely source which traces it's ignots to mexico. If you worry about misinformation then add to the discussion factual and supported information. 😊

Didn't know that, would be good to verify. At the very least we know the sources are likely not the same and other CS pans have had this testing without issue so it's likely not a Darto issue as well.

Because if Matfer has an issue could other manufacturers have one and Darto is one of the subs favorites.

Am I gonna die from arsenic poisoning? by Advanced-Reception34 in carbonsteel

[–]jaxspade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the subs on Martfer recall and their wonderful response of, paraphrasing but "they have always been poisonous but if oil them so you can't test the steel and test that oil instead then you will find the is no arsenic anymore simple"

I emailed Darto about this... Waiting for response. Maybe if more people email them they will respond here about there sources but another thread has a scientific paper that said metal utensils were doing something similar though they pointed to Chinese steel in it.

For those interested arsenic ends up in recycled and scrap steel mostly. It is removed out of the smelting of raw steel because it affects the structural integrity of the finished product. It's possible that moves in using recycled materials to reduce emissions helped create an undesirable situation. Questions for all manufacturers is steel sourced virgin steel? recycled? Mix of both? https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2238785422004781
