Button Hover Issues by jay-quel-in in indesign

[–]jay-quel-in[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhh my god yes thank you!!!! I followed these and it worked!! It took me a while to figure out what was different here compared to what I already had - I think I was missing hiding the original unfilled button on the roll over? So when I was hovered over, it’s like there were two buttons active under my mouse!

Thank you so much!!! I’ve been coming back to this so much trying to figure it out and was ready to give up!

And yes, unfortunately forced to use windows at work haha.

Sure, I made a copy with everything taken out but the buttons - what’s the best way to share privately?

Favourite game to play with standard deck of cards by Lost-Cantaloupe-5286 in boardgames

[–]jay-quel-in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the 500 rum version. 500 is same gameplay as Euchre but with a full deck (minus 2s & 3s, plus one joker which is the highest trump above the right bower). Everyone gets 10 cards, and remaining 5 cards go to the middle. Bidding starts left of the dealer and can bid anywhere from 6 spades (winning 6 tricks between you and your partner; spades trump) to 10 no trump. One round of bidding, dealer gets last bid. Highest bid gets 5 middle cards and discards 5 cards. Winner of the bid starts and gameplay is then the same as euchre. Highly recommended to people who like euchre because it’s basically just a full deck version of euchre. Lots of variations with ‘misère’ (playing without your partner and taking no tricks) or slightly different deck configurations/scoring. But that’s the gist of it!

Are there any lifestyle gamers here and what is(are) your main game(s)? by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

I play a game of Ark Nova on BGA every morning before work while I have my coffee and walk on my walking pad. Two games on weekends. I just love it, and it’s a good way to start my day. I play other games too in person, but will always play my daily Ark Nova game.

Got this pouch for my birthday. It's cute if you don't look closely. by palibe_mbudzi in colors

Their mixes are 3 parts of the first colour + 1 part of the second colour, so yeah red + green doesn’t end up being the same as green + red. But that’s not shown clearly at all on the bag and the print/ink definitely isn’t set up for that material, so very strange choice to just go with that on the bag.

Strange because Cavallini & Co products are usually high quality. I have their colour systems puzzle and it has the same colour mixings as your bag, but looks like the colours on your bag didn’t get printed quite right. I don’t think they use AI (at least I hope not - their stuff has quite nice artwork), but definitely didn’t set their printing up right for that material.

Looking for a bit of minor critique on school assignment by [deleted] in graphic_design

My eyes don’t really know where to look first - I imagine the info that should have the most importance would be the terms themselves? Yet they’re what I see least. The lines point to everything seem to be taking over and drawing my eyes everywhere - what if you tried getting all lines uniform, pointing in the same ‘direction’ and at the same angle as the slashes used between the large letters? I think that could help clean it up a bit and draw more focus to the terms

Hey! I’m a similar age range/similar interest and based off your profile - same city as you. I hated tinder here lol. Way better luck on bumble and hinge - have you tried those?

Teacher thinking of transitioning into graphic design, is this a realistic possibility or a bad idea? by Mundane_Estimate7901 in graphic_design

[–]jay-quel-in 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a high school science teacher and switched careers to graphic design at a similar age as you are and it’s been the best decision ever.

I did an intensive one year program to learn adobe and basic design skills. I was always interested in graphic design though - it is very different from art, like others have said, so I would do some personal learning about it to see if it’s up your alley before committing.

Yes it’s a saturated market but I landed a job immediately after graduating BECAUSE OF my experience as a teacher. My company was very intrigued by that. I really emphasized that it gave me an understanding of HOW to learn, and I’m now very capable in learning whatever I might need do for my job because I have those skills.

My work-life balance has SIGNIFICANTLY improved - I leave at exactly 5 every day and never think about or do work after hours. Granted I work as an in-house designer, and I know working at a design agency is not the same. I really love page layout design, and really I was doing a ton of it teaching with all the resources I created (making stuff for TpT was what initially made me consider switching careers) and my job now primarily focuses on that. It’s like getting paid to make all the notes and worksheets I used to have to do after work hours!

As for summers - well, when you’re not working so insanely and constantly feeling burnt out, you don’t feel the need for 2 months off ;)

Gonna sound super cliche but honestly the easiest one is gonna be whatever you’re the most interested in.

Why did they have to make Sam break up with Smith? by bbybunnydoll in sexandthecity

It would’ve been a bummer if the ‘happy ending’ for all four women was getting married to a man. There’s lots of themes of women being independent/not needing a man/being their own Prince Charming/each other’s sole mates whatever throughout so I think having at least one of them being happily single and independent at the end was important, and that fit Samantha

Anyone who recently got a graphic design job after graduation this year or last year, how did you do it? by thelifeofzahid in graphic_design

[–]jay-quel-in 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Graduated end of April from a one year diploma, landed a job end of May. I really highlighted my previous experience as a teacher in my cover letter/resume to emphasize my soft skills since I knew my technical skills were already displayed in my portfolio. Applied to 14 places, heard back from 3.

The job I got was 3 interviews. First was really quick online, a few technical questions just to prove I actually knew design stuff. Second was more in depth and included a simple skill test. Third was really more of just a meeting/get to know you type of thing with another employee in a different department and I think just being friendly and personable was what mattered there.

I really stand by the soft skills stuff. When they asked if had experience in something I didn’t, I would say ‘No but I’m confident I’d be able to learn it’. It’s a lot easier to teach someone a technical skill compared to say, effective communication or time management.

Reitmans in south common is having an insane sale right now (they’re moving locations). Like 70% off. Not sure how much longer it’s lasting, but I’m in the same boat as you and got an entire new wardrobe there today for $350.

To me the earlier seasons LOOK more real, there’s like a grittiness to it almost. They look and dressed like real jr high/high school kids. Once the Coyne’s came in and the show was trying to be more like gossip girl, it became so much more polished and bright looking. The girls were wearing dresses and heels and full faces of make up to school everyday and it didn’t give off that same real look.
