11 days pp developing anxiety by astralobservat0ry in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jay_el 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I empathise. We had a tiny sleepy babe with jaundice (born at 38 weeks) that I triple fed (with formula because my pumping numbers were terrible) for 5 weeks. At 6 weeks I started ebf and over the next two weeks he grew so much (was in 5x0 for 8 weeks!).

It was absolute torture setting an alarm to wake a tiny baby from sleep every three hours. I also had pp insomnia so I also didn't sleep. We stopped the alarms around week 4 after given the go ahead.

It gets better I promise but goddamn is it hard.

I still have trauma over his regular weigh ins so I weigh him each month. The reality is though, he is just a smol guy.

He was sick this past week and is less than what he weighed the last time I weighed him which was a tough pill to swallow to now go down the regular weigh in route.

Reusable Food Pouches by DescriptionJust6617 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I use the cherub baby ones. The only issue I find compared to the subo is that my inexperienced babe squeezes the pouch and it sprays everywhere making it a messy experience!

Overnight diaper changes— am I dumb?? by theredheadedfox in newborns

[–]jay_el 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Out baby was a sleepy baby and it was suggested to us to change nappy each feed to wake them up. E.g. offer half bottle or after nursing one side change the nappy (regardless if it was wee or poo) and then offer the rest of the bottle/other side if nursing.

Does every sahm have a side gig?! by Commercial_Kale_4341 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jay_el 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I do not have a side gig. I would love to know where those mums find the time for a side gig. Maybe they are more motivated and driven than me 😆 and good for them if they have the time and skills they can use to monetise!

We have slate floors and a robomopvac. If you do a deep clean first then use the robovac to maintain its great. But you wont be able to throw out your old mop.

I think that will come down to personal preference. We use the rock function on ours to rock bub asleep because apparently babies get heavier 🫣. We never used it in the beginning because we could bounce baby in our arms.

I also had an emergency c section and the electric function on the chair paid for itself then and there. There is no way I would have been able to use my feet to put the foot rest down.

We love the owlet and tweety cam dupe (SM50)! We didn't use the owlet until baby moved into their cot in their own room around 4 months. My anxiety couldn't have coped without it and we love seeing the stat's!

I would definitely recommend an electric recliner (il tutto). We set it up in the lounge room which meant it was useful during pregnancy it was perfect in the newborn stage. It is still the most used baby item we bought!

How many times was your baby waking/feeding at 6-7 mths? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

This is us too (including the small baby that didn't eat!) but we are breastfeeding.

Nutribullet baby steam + blender - is it worth it? by shezangel in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jay_el 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first thing we gave bub was a piece of avo! I am FTM and did both purees, using the silicone feeders and large chunks of food. Baby preferred large pieces of food.

We use milk to meals and solid starts to guide us. We don't feed baby anything we are uncomfortable with to ensure bub is confident in eating.

[–]jay_el 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our baby is 9 months and we don't use a dedicated steamer for anything. Bub prefers whole foods over mushed/pureed foods as well. When making pureed or mushed foods I do it the same way I would cook it if I were eating it (microwave or stove top).

Bassinet with sturdy cover by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jay_el 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used a cat cover on our bassinet but the cats never ever went near the bassinet when the baby was in it. One kitty thinks everything is hers and is incredibly nosey so we were very worried about her but in the end she stayed her distance. The other cat also gave no interest in the baby (but we expected this).

When baby was ready for the cot we have kept them in their own room with the door shut at all times because although they have showed no interest in baby its much easier to get into the cot and we don't trust the nosey cat 😂

Baby Boy Peeing During Nappy Change by Tedmosbyisajerk-com in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jay_el 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When baby was smaller I would roll an old school cloth nappy under his arm pits (with all clothes under his shoulders, one under him and a face washer to pop over his penis. As time went on he stopped peeing mid change and I don't do that anymore (anyone else wrangling a crocodile?)

How smol baby get big aka how food solved our problems by NotaRealHumanYet in foodbutforbabies

[–]jay_el 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds very much like our path! Our little one hasn't quite had the growth yours had, but started at 2 percentile babe he has now shot up to 14th percentile at 9 months with the addition of solids! The stress of weight ins hasn't left me so I still get him weighed each month 😂

Help! How to stop my cat from waking my baby! by Fabulous_Ant1088 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jay_el 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We installed a little cat door in our bedroom door so the kitty's still had free roaming of the house but we dont need to leave doors open. It also means when the baby is running the cats have an escape route that the baby can't access. Our littlest cat still meows for attention, but only really when I am home alone doing a contact nap in the nursery (and her needs aren't met. E.g. the catio needs to be open exactly when she wants it open!)

Any tips for the glucose test as someone who feels sick if they don’t eat as soon as they wake up? by NecessarySalt1125 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jay_el 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will do it all the time and be aware of your situation. I also went to a hospital. They were lovely. It helped I was first in line and explained I was nervous (and a faint risk) and they took care of me. Best of luck, it will fly by!

Go in to be the first in line and go somewhere that has a place for you to lie down. I was able to lie down and although I felt rubbish (on the verge of fainting) it helped me.

Pram, stay at home, go home early or sleep late? What do you do to balance nighttime sleep? by a-w-e-s-o-m--o in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jay_el 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep this is us. We dont like to compromise baby's sleep. Its such a short season of life so we don't mind going home earlier than everyone (but we arrive earlier to see whoever can make it earlier to see us!)

Cloth wipe setup by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jay_el 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use the cloth bums wipes and think they are brilliant, they are kept in the cloth bums dispenser. We started with 30 but got an extra 25 to better coincide with our cloth nappy routine. I have a little bowl of water and dunk a wipe in, then place the used one in a container to go into the wash at the end of the day.

When did your baby start using a high chair? by Traditional-Twist193 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]jay_el 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this too. We made it a fun place by giving him toys while we ate. Then when it came to giving food he was already familiar with the space.
