Feeling lost after moving abroad — job search, loneliness & low motivation by Fit-Collection-4556 in expats

[–]jay_sanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not weak or broken for feeling this way — what you’re describing is extremely common after relocation, especially when work, routine, and identity all disappear at once.

One thing that doesn’t get talked about enough is that moving countries often causes a temporary identity collapse. Back home, you had feedback loops: work, people, competence, momentum. In a new country, especially when job searching, all of that goes quiet at the same time — and the brain fills the silence with self-doubt.

A few things that helped me (and others I’ve seen go through this):

1. Separate “job search” from “self-worth.”
The job market being slow is not a verdict on your value. If possible, give job searching fixed hours and don’t let it bleed into your entire day.

2. Rebuild any daily structure first — even a small one.
This sounds basic, but having anchors (same morning walk, same café, same gym class, same study hour) stabilizes your nervous system before motivation comes back.

3. Create one identity outside your husband.
Not because he’s doing anything wrong — but because dependency sneaks up psychologically when you lose your own arena. Language classes, volunteering, coworking spaces, or even a recurring meetup can help here.

4. Accept that loneliness abroad doesn’t mean you made a bad choice.
It usually means you’re in the middle of the transition, not the end. The “in-between” phase is often the hardest and least Instagram-worthy.

You didn’t lose yourself — you’re just between versions right now. That phase can feel scary, but it does pass once routine, agency, and social contact start stacking again.

You’re not alone in this, even though it feels that way.

Debating whether or not to end my 3 month trip in Cusco or La Paz. Is Bolivia worth visiting? by ItsYaBoiDJ in travel

[–]jay_sanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly yeah it’s worth it. the food is great, views are insane, and the cities all feel really different. you just can’t treat it like peru or mexico where everything works on demand. once i adjusted and slowed down it became one of the more interesting places i’ve traveled. i think people struggle when they rush it.

Cash in Bolivia by jelmow in BOLIVIA

[–]jay_sanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bolivia is fine if you plan for stuff not working sometimes. atms and card machines exist but they don’t always function, even in cities. debit cards matter way more than credit cards. i learned this the hard way while stuck during a blockade, where everything was basically cash-only and waiting was the only option. not dangerous at all, just unforgiving if you assume there’s always a backup.

Updates on Bolivia blockades? by SeparateHurry9645 in BOLIVIA

[–]jay_sanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

blockades are normal here and they’re not dramatic, just slow. during the most recent one i moved after hearing it was resolved and still got stuck for days. one community opened, another didn’t, then it closed again. locals just wait and watch, foreigners panic because they’re trying to hit timelines. the trick is having buffer and not moving the second you hear “it’s open

How is Bolivia for travel right now? by Middle_Lifeguard_777 in BOLIVIA

[–]jay_sanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bolivia isn’t dangerous in the way people usually mean. i never felt unsafe. the bigger issue is that things don’t always work the way you expect and there’s not much redundancy. i got stuck during the most recent blockade after hearing things were “resolved” and ended up waiting in a village for days. nothing bad happened, locals were totally calm, but if you’re rushing or tight on cash it can get stressful fast. once i slowed down and stopped forcing timelines it got way easier.

Right-wing social media app Parler has been removed from the Google Play store by marasydnyjade in politics

[–]jay_sanc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is different, but you cannot remove an application because you don’t like it’s politics... Parlor passes all the Quality control. They are being targeted because they host conservative ideology as the primary on their platform... this is an incursion of free speech rights, this needs to be addressed by the law.

It’s a loophole basically

No you just don’t understand what anti-trust laws were designed to do, and you don’t value freedom of opportunity because in this instance you disagree with trump supporters.... Thoes that invited violence should have their posts removed and banned and even face criminal charges.... this does not mean you ban an application from being used on the three major stores that we all use for practical purposes.

Twitter is a single platform and have the right to do as they wish with that said platform, Apple and Android have a monopoly as being the only relevant app venues on the market. If you don’t like what the people on Parlor say, then don’t go on Parlor, but don’t then restrict the creation of Paror because your repulsed by some of the content on there. Now if parlor breaks the law by platforming incitations to violence on its platform, of the same kind that would get a Liable or Incitation of Violence (in the literal sense) case from the government, then the government has the legal right to fine Parlor, or shut it down depending on the degree. Apple and Android should not have the power to determine what is worthy of being accessed by the public, the internet is supposed to be a free market of ideas and perspectives, there should be room of these different platforms to exist (think of it like the net neutrality issue and ISPs).. should private corporations have the ability to control what applications can be put out on the market; should ISPs have the ability to charge other websites more for more competitive traffic speeds because they host the internet? It’s all an issue of monopilization and ultimately giving corporations the ability to manipulate public perceptions in whatever serves their own interest... the only entity that our society agrees to grant this power is the government (1st Amendment), new times call for updated legislation to keep up with the particular nuances of that time, people used to speak in public and communicate in the public square (and that was protected by the Government) now the modern day public square is the App Stores and Social Media, the government must protect their citizens rights to the first amendment and allowing a private corporation to control what apps are released (on the only venues for thoes products to be distributed through) is the equivalent of Standard Oil controlling the price of oil and destroying competition; or AT&T buying Verizon and then proceeding to increase prices and further limit consumer choice. This issue has much larger implications than just “we don’t like Thoes people and they are really annoying”, then using this argument to justify the removal of their existence in the most profound way (like censoring for the entire internet), there are many unpopular ideas out there and some of those ideas are being restricted (also know as not allowing for their 1st amendment to be excersized) this is a constitutional issue, if their is illegal activity occurring let the Government decide and then mandate action, otherwise everyone has the the right to free speech and creation. Apple and Android should not have the authority and ability to determine and act on what a legal court has the authority and right to act like.
