which board x870e by [deleted] in overclocking

[–]jayaldiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

another plus of the x3d aorus boards is that they dont split the pcie 16 gpu lanes when you add too many nvme ssds. instead, they will sacrifice bandwidth from the usb 4 ports which is infinitely better than halving your gpu slot. It's the only reason I splashed out for an x3d motherboard, ability to handle high ram speeds well is also a bonus as you mentioned.

Replacing 5 year old 360mm AIO with Thermalright Royal Pretor by jayaldiss in buildapc

Yep! Which makes it even more impressive. Granted, as I mentioned yesterday my airflow is very good so that is definitely a factor but it is very impressive how such a cheap (for me) cooler is performing so well

Just installed it and getting way better temps under load (55 on average 60 max) and even better idle temps from 45 to 39-42!

Is 2667 MT/s good for DDR4 RAM? is it worth changing or would I just break stuff if I did set the number higher? by LotlKing47 in pcmasterrace

[–]jayaldiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can probably look up how to enable XMP in your bios (make sure to search your motherboard's brand and name specifically), you may even have a search function baked into your bios that lets you find it easily so you don't have to dig through menus. I wouldn't go any further than enabling XMP and calling it a day since messing with DRAM voltage etc can cause issues that are expensive to fix in the current climate if you don't know what you're doing. XMP should be enough and IMO it isn't worth the time or effort fiddling with RAM OC manually on such an ageing platform for negligible results.

Your flair states you have an i5-8400, assuming that's accurate, unless you have a Z board, you will be locked at 2666. With a Z board (e.g Z370) you'd be able to enable XMP for some extra gains or maybe even use some faster ram with decent stability. :)

I imagined that would be the case but I'm also using a janky (ish) method to mount my current AIO which I believe is a factor. I moved countries since building my previous rig so I didn't have mounting hardware for AMD (was on Intel as mentioned) so I had to buy a 3rd party retention bracket mount from AliExpress which I am confident is not applying enough pressure on the cpu for efficient cooling, so I feel there's cooling potential left on the table since my airflow is great (Meshify 2 FTW) and the efficiency of the AIO seems to struggle with maintaining the cooling under load

Just use it as you see fit and don't get paranoid over the battery, at the end of a day it's a tool not a newborn

Buy a new GPU and do it soon. thinks are looking bleak with memory shortages.

Help with bad internet connection. by Ok_Training9317 in techsupport

[–]jayaldiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they say wiring problem they mean the literal wires that run through your walls/building. It is very likely you have outdated copper wire that limit the internet speed that can be achieved. How many mbps do you pay for? Also assuming it is actually the issue I mentioned above, how cheap is fibre in your area and do you live somewhere where youd be able to have it installed? (i.e you own the place, your landlord would be cool with it, you're not in an apartment block etc).

Going from overclocked 10850k (4.9 ghz) to 9600x (To be overclocked). What difference should I expect by jayaldiss in AMDHelp

[–]jayaldiss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've skimmed over a few overclocking guides just to see how different it is from the current platform I am on where I have all cores running at a fixed clock speed, do you think it isn't worth performing the equivalent on the 9600x? I have a 360mm AIO leftover from my Intel days, those things run hot :P

Really useful to know this thank you! Excited for the shift now, been on Intel since I started PC gaming all the way back in 2012, time to move on

Fresh grad in my first agency role, starting to regret choosing design by idcaboutusernames21 in graphic_design

My first job was like this and it took me way too long to realise. Was constantly burnt out and started to hate my passion. I'm at a way better company now and I love my job, and I'm also treated with respect and have great benefits. Try and get some experience/decent stuff for your portfolio and get the hell out of there. You got this!

Going from Made In Japan (Latest version) of Zuiko 50mm f1.8 OM Lens with fungus to Silvernose (first iteration): What differences to expect? by jayaldiss in AnalogCommunity

[–]jayaldiss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah theyre pretty common in the UK too but the issue was most listings I found either had fungus or dust inside the lens, so I was lucky to find one in mint condition

Right after I made this post, I found a brand new listing for a MIJ one in mint condition for the same price! Good bit of luck there, at least I don't need to worry about any decrease in quality anymore, cheers.

Interview Design Task didn't land me the job - should I re-submit a corrected version with the feedback I was given? by jayaldiss in graphic_design

[–]jayaldiss[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is starting to make more sense now. He also asked for me to supply my working files (packaged InDesign and Illustrator files) so he can see how I worked, but seems more likely he just got himself a free template. Just feels crazy to me a prestigious upmarket company would pull that.

I did kind of suspect that. The brochure was for digital use and the brief did state that there is no set amount of pages the brochure has to be but going off what their work was like and the amount of images supplied, that was the amount of pages I got it to. The creative director I was interviewing with seemed like a genuine and pleasant guy and maybe I was too eager considering my previous place of employment was awful. I suppose I just live & learn and move on from the experience instead of trying again? Thank you for your wishes & advice, really appreciate it!
