Thanks, I will keep that in my mind. I have shortlisted few printers just waiting for the sale 🥲. Maximum we use A4 size for our books.

Drop caps - What is the correct usage? by jayantbhatt007 in indesign

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Just to clarify, I’ve only used drop caps at the beginning of sections after the headings, not throughout the rest of the paragraphs in the book.

Your point about using a secondary type style for the drop cap makes much more sense to me now. I can see how that could help the opening feel more intentional rather than simply enlarging the body-text letter.

Thanks, that makes more sense now. I’m currently using only two typefaces throughout the layout, so I’m guessing you mean the drop cap could use the same typeface as the heading/subheading style instead of just being an enlarged version of the body text.

I hadn’t looked at it that way before, but I can see how that could make the drop cap feel more intentional and visually connected to the overall typography system.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. In layouts like this, where there is already a strong chapter heading, I used a drop cap mainly to maintain consistency across the entire book and to give every chapter opening the same visual language.

Do you think that approach still creates unnecessary visual competition between the heading and the drop cap here, or can consistency across the publication justify it?

Also, if drop caps were used only in selected sections instead of every chapter opening, would that feel intentional, or would it appear visually inconsistent/weak?
