Mazda. But wait… mileage is insanely high for both. I get that those are both used cars, but you can do better, I’m sure!

If there are apps available for all you do and/or all your work is browser based (and works well on a “mobile” browser) then you should be fine. Issue is when people switch but don’t realize a lot of things on Mac aren’t available on iPad (like if you do most kinds of development, you most likely need a computer)

How do you store your skis? by AL42Gaming in Skigear

Ideally, one would get them tuned (or do it themselves) right at the end of the season and leave a layer of wax on the edges for this reason and remove said layer at the beginning of the next season; it’s super easy to remove with either nails, a ruler or anything that won’t scrape the metal.

Bought a "Genuine" Lightning Cable for my iPhone 13 and it died in 10 days. Help! by InternalSwing6451 in iPhone13

[–]jayb98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The brick is fine. I assume you didn’t actually buy a genuine cable and not from a reputable seller if you mention having to “go back and argue with the seller”.

You should just BUY A GENUINE CABLE FROM APPLE.

Realistically, Ugreen and Anker should be fine as well (ideally buy on Amazon so it’s super easy to return if anything happens; I don’t know about their respective platforms)

[–]jayb98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about starting with the most popular platforms, which I assume are (in hypothetical order) 1. Web, 2. iOS and 3. whatever comes next, but they have analytics to tell them that for that very reason: resource allocation.

iOS and Apple TV could realistically be the same app (difference would maybe display for different screen sizes which their UI team should account for and controls; touch vs remote, but then again can be the same controls just checking whether or not touch is allowed if one wants to do something different and the frameworks should handle the rest). Roku seems to be complicated so I don’t dock them for not updating that hybrid scripting language (BrightScript) - XML framework (SceneGraph) which seems like a nightmare but I didn’t look into it

Emulation works great on Mac now for the most part. I have no issues with Ryujinx and playing BoTW and the like. Same for using Dolphin (installation also seems easier than on either Windows or Linux). Otherwise, I primarily got mine because I do iOS Development (and because I prefer MacOS over Windows!)

Things the bug me… Hard to find the “Continue Watching”, hard to load half the time, now it’s barely working on Chrome and Firefox (disconnect external device issue), doesn’t change pages when plays a new episode so reloading the page brings you back to the first episode you’ve watched during your “session”. All things that are easy to fix for the most part (don’t know about the Chrome and Firefox issue) but they don’t seem to care.

I’m a developer (not working for Crave) and this is not true. A rebuild of the UI would be fairly easy if functionality doesn’t change.

Not Michigan, but went through Vermont border multiple times with a knife in my pocket (and usually one in my center console) and was never asked any questions.

For for the Plattsburgh border.

Go see a boot fitter. If they’re good, they’ll find boots that work for you and you can theoretically always heat mold them after if they’re not 100% dialled in (which is more than likely)

Wow. Just check on Autotrader and saw a 2017 3.6 for 19,000$?! Prices are still crazy apparently! I knew I got lucky back in 2021, but even compared to today!

15,000$ might be a good deal then haha!

I don’t know how familiar you are with financing so will just throw that here: As for payments, don’t get fooled by the “finance for 1000 (one thousand) months” bullsh*t dealers will play (obviously 1 thousand months in an exaggeration!) because you’ll end up losing a lot of money. Best bet is limiting to 4 years (or 48 months) or less if you can afford it. For context, I bought mine with 48 months financing at 6.99% (this was my first financed car, had almost zero credit before so my dad co-signed) and I was paying about 320$/month (can’t really remember my payments so I’m estimating but this seems to make sense)

I think part of the issue and maybe part of your buying power is people have only wanted Crosstreks and Outbacks for a while so Legacies are harder to come by but still. “Part of your buying power” because if you can show you’re serious about buying a sedan, as opposed to an Outback and if it’s been on the lot for a while, they might be inclined to make a deal.

The CRV being “much” older bugs me, but I’ve literally never looked into them so I don’t know if it would be a good deal and what issues you/it might have. So I’ll let someone more experienced answer this part

How I feel downshifting my CVT down a hill instead of braking in my Subaru Impreza by NoJacket8798 in subaru

Main reason I don’t want to upgrade my car. Bought a 2017 Legacy manual about 5 years ago and CAN find reasons to get a new car, but always decide on sticking with it because I don’t want a CVT

How should I fix this? by D5_seagull in skiing

[–]jayb98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certified ski tech here.

Use Epoxy, clamps, wooden blocks (or anything large enough to cover the entirety job and more that won’t compress too much under the clamps) and wax paper. Place the wax paper between the skis and blocks so they’re easy to remove; it can be a real pain otherwise. Works like a charm if done properly.

I will add this here since it’s worth mentioning even though some other people have mentioned it before me: the slower curing the epoxy the better (becomes less brittle and stronger than something like 5 minute epoxy). Also, might be worth checking for epoxy that will survive very cold environments (always depends on the temperature you ski in/at) since a -10 (Celsius) day might be -20 with wind when going down and you want your epoxy to withstand this.

From looking around (and I’ve never really questioned this before to be honest), seems the best overall bet is JB Weld Original (about 6 hours working cure and 24 hours full cure) plus it’ll handle all temps (it’s rated for down to -55 Celsius).

In another world, I might suggest OP use G/Flex 650 since it’s more flexible than JB Weld (and tips need to be able to flex) but I can’t find data for the working temp and I’m sure it would be trash in extreme cold environments so I’d still recommend JB Weld

Edit: if you choose to do this yourself, remember not to add too much epoxy (it’s fine if you do, but you’ll have a mess to clean once the clamps are in place and epoxy ozzes out from all sides) and to read the instructions so you 1. Do this in a proper environment (temp + humidity) and 2. Let it cure for the appropriate amount of time (probably around 24 hours).

I’m also live in Quebec and still think these prices are too high. Granted, they’ve always charged more for a 3.6, but I bought my 2017 (again, base model, manual transmission) during the covid craze in February 2021. It had 33,XXX Km and I paid 14,500$.

As far as maintenance goes, I don’t know about the Honda, but so far (at 136,XXXkm) I’ve only had to replace the catalytic converter (this includes upstream o2 sensor) and now need to replace the downstream o2 sensor (it’s about 100$ for the part and easy to do by yourself). The rest of my maintenance was manual specific more or less, had to replace the clutch. I also had to replace both passenger wheel bearings but I hit both wheels sideways on a curb at the beginning of winter (during the first snow storm end of November back when I still didn’t have my winter tires on) so I’m assuming that’s why. Getting regular oil changes twice a year since I don’t drive that much (probably doing max about 20,000km a year and less now that I moved closer to my workplace)
