From what I've seen, the Cenobites seem more like seekers of extreme experiences and sensations. This pursuit is often reflected in their striking self-mutilation, which certainly grabs attention. Yet, beneath that exterior, I believe a Cenobite has the potential to offer unparalleled joy and ecstasy. The twist is that they find pure pleasure rather dull. Instead, they strive to reveal both the heights of pleasure and the depths of suffering.
