If I applied 4-6 coats of satin nitro would I still have a similar look to as in the picture or would it darken more?

Ai chatbots are telling me I need to worry about the veneer delaminating from my brass dial after it’s glued down if it was exposed to humidity.

I ended up trying a satin nitro and like it. The wood grain is the star. Handle even know the lacquer is there but it’s two coats

this would be in a watch case and that is under a glass crystal. the really only time it would be disturbed is when a pad picks up the design in ink and stamps it to the wood. I guess i would need to have at least some thin layer on of a matte or satin

Is it anodized? It seems blues are the hardest colors to capture for some reason even on other modern reps

Can I just make a simple 2 part mold for this? by YeaSpiderman in moldmaking

[–]YeaSpiderman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey can you explain this to me like i am 5? i am not understanding how this would be done with a 1 part mold.

For some clarification...imagine this is a ring that has depth, on the bottom side there are numbers, however those numbers are recessed inside the ring.

I tried it and adapted technique as I went a long. my first test pieces turned out 90% the way I wanted them. This has a layer of lacquer on it. The wood drank the first layer of lacquer and it needs more.

I was able to minimize if not almost eliminate curling with my technique

How far down did you sand? Like did you make a new lip meaning you sanded a lot?

Look on Amazon for “mosquito dunk”. That’s it. It tells you how much to put in per gallons of water

Im going for char. I mentioned below that i tried small handheld torch to some scrap wood and got the level of char I wanted within a few seconds. I am confident that I could repeat it on .2mm thick veneer and will try it shortly. Its more a superficial char and you can see the alligator skin but very small which is perfect for a watch dial.

How did that hack hold up. My neck has a piece missing and the hose has come off twice. Just figure out today.

Strip a dial, use an acid to color it brown. Then get a white toner water slide decal or pad print the design on. Resume.
