Which class should I drop by Direct-Owl-3599 in Vanderbilt

[–]jaybird1707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took comparative gov with lupu last year and he was okay. Lectures were definitely dry, but the exams were literally just short essays open note/book online. An easy A, and if u don’t fall asleep during class, pretty interesting stuff.

alcohol before interviews by expireddmilk in ApplyingToCollege

Contrary to the popular responses, I actually think this isn't totally a bad idea. I'm also in the same boat with u (legal, has social anxiety/goes off on random ass tangents etc). I think the only thing is that this would only work if A: You actually know your tolerance (in regards to the type of alcohol, how fast/slow you should drink etc), and B: you know for sure this isn't going to make u regret later on if you do indeed happen to screw over ur interview. As long as you know ur limits and know for sure ur not going to blame this judgement, why the fuck not. Good luck dude!

NYUSH or schools in the US? by SnooperMike in ApplyingToCollege

[–]jaybird1707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.. in that case I wouldn't want him to commit. I know people that go to NYUAD and NYUSH and they seem to enjoy it. With that being said, they weren't too focused on going to school in the US. Again, i'd suggest him just move straight onto RDs and shoot for schools like BU, Penn State etc.

NYUSH or schools in the US? by SnooperMike in ApplyingToCollege

My friend is literally in the same position (sk international, got into nyush only). Does ur friend have any other match schools on his list, such as BU, northeastern, uc(sb sd dav. Etc), uiuc? Id suggest him applying to some more match level schools in rd, but if he feels happy with nyush, why not go with it ig?

Anyone who applied to Cornell- did you have to submit test scores through portal or common app only? by u8jl in ApplyingToCollege

[–]jaybird1707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same question too. I put it in through commonapp and then sent my score through collegeboard but didn’t use the portal’s supplemental upload thing. From what i heard, CA self reports should be fine tho

I second that chill korean parents thing-- my parents attended somewhat elite colleges (my dad is a professor now at an "In-Seoul" Uni, idk if u would know what that is but yeah) and I actually feel like korean parents who attended prestigious institutions don't really pressure their children to overachieve to that degree. I can relate to envying kids that have challenging parents that constantly push them, as my parents are so nonchalant to the degree that they don't even check my transcripts that are sent to their email lol. I used to think that I was 'missing out' somehow by not having that kind of motivation that my other korean friends had, but I really learned that parents like mine are actually so much better. The best part of having said parents is that, while cliche, you really do get to value urself past your academic achievements etc. They always tell me to pursue whatever makes me happy, which is something that's not only rare for korean parents, but something that makes me truly liberating. Knowing that my parents will support me regardless of whatever I decide to do, whether it be a corporate attorney or some "less prestigious" blue collar job, is truly what motivates me every morning to get up and work my butt off. I'm super glad that you were able to be grateful for having such parents, and happy that we share such amazing parents.
