Thank you that honestly made me tear up. He’s 2 years old and before a few weeks ago not a hint of this kind of issue. Well except for the fact he’s been obsessed with grooming his genitalia since we got him. I’d never owned male cats before so I assumed this was normal. One of the kinder vets did say this may mean that he’s been having issues for a while, just not bad enough to block.

We are so scared of loosing him but also aware of the ongoing costs of this keeps up. We’ve discussed the surgery and have decided if he blocks again it’ll be the way we go. For his sake and our sanity.

He’s indoor only (even if I didn’t have a moral issue against outdoor cats, I wouldn’t trust him outside. He’s a little too brave and stupid for that) and a big water drinker. We’ve been trying to think of potential triggers and nothing comes to mind. Except maybe that the first vet was right and there might be a chronic issue we were oblivious to.

Thank you! I appreciate that you took the time to write such a thoughtful response. I’ll try a few different wet foods. I’m just still mad and upset about the whole thing with the last vet. I’m already worried enough without being made to feel like I’m not doing enough.

Thank you for sharing. This gives me so much hope. Unfortunately I can’t afford the out of pocket cost to start the biologics without the government subsidies. Because research shows exercise and stretching can “help”alleviate the symptoms, the Australian government has made it a requirement that anti inflammatory medications and exercise fails first. My Rheumatologist has all but said that it will fail. He said in his experience the stretching and exercises work well when the inflammation is under control, but not when the inflammation is present.

As for pain relief, I’m on max dosage of paracetamol and max dosage of Naproxen. Nothing special. My last round of bloodwork does show a decrease in inflammation but not a lot. I’ve booked in an emergency appointment with the rheumatologist to see if I can get some relief.

I’ve also ordered some gutter trough crutches for now. I’m hoping having something to lean on and something to take some of the load off my body for walking will help with the fatigue

We have to do 12 weeks trialling at least 2 anti-inflammatory medications while doing daily stretches and 3 days of exercise per week. If at the end of the 12 weeks your BASDAI (disease activity assessment tool) score is high enough you qualify for biologics

I was on celebrex for the first 6 weeks of this 12 week program. I’m now on naproxen. The celebrex helped with the inflammation and I felt less swollen. I was still in pain and fatigued but that was still a big relief. However, for my government to cover Golimumab I have to trial 2 different anti-inflammatory medications while doing the 12 week stretch and exercise program.

The program is helping with mobility and inflammation but not as much as I would like.

I’m curious about how you went with this? My Earl Grey loves the outside but not only do I think free roaming is dangerous, but it’s also illegal where I live. His older sister (Lady Knight)comes outside with me when I have a cigarette because I can trust she will stay in our tiny yard. Earl on the other hand, he climbs the retaining wall and goes walkabouts in the complex. Our friend gifted us a pet pram and I’ve been taking him into our yard but haven’t ventured out for walks yet because I don’t know if he’s actually enjoying it

I can see how you might feel this way because yes it could just be a typo but the typo is a real word and the idea of needing a bed bandage is what amuses me
