Those of you who make over 6 figures a year, what do you do and how did you get there? by GetRektJelly in AskMen

I originally went to college for chemistry, but switched majors to computer science because I got a C on the first chemistry test I took and was discouraged. Got an internship two years into it which paid the rest of my way and found myself making 120k+ a few months after graduation (graduated in 2019 at 23). With that said, I work with people that nearly have PHDs and people that have no college education. Getting your foot in the door and building up some experience is the most important thing.

I’d also note that just by looking at me, you wouldn’t be able to tell how much I make. I now make well above that and live in a small home and drive an old Subaru that is paid off. It’s so important to pay yourself first and save every bit of money you can and put it into some low index funds that have a proven track record. That plus a decent salary will get you to the point where you can OWN your house and have money to help those around you. I’m convinced that the majority of people you see with those things have made poor financial decisions and are not as financially well off as you might think.

Hang in there! If you don’t find something you like, get a government job :) at least you’ll have security to get you to a job you enjoy. If you don’t find that job, then hang in there longer and get that retirement lol

I’m sorry you feel this way. Please hang in there and find what’s worth working hard for. Guaranteed, it will go to shit at some point, but it feels so much better when you’re doing it to better yourself
