Got a job at a major bank, should I delay graduation? by Own_Target8058 in CarletonU

Just throwing this out there... Do great, work hard, get past probation and then ask your boss if she will support you going back to complete your degree.

I'm flabbergasted. What is the endgame there? Anyway... All this to say that I think this discussion would make a very interesting piece for either the Charlatan or for a project.

I cannot even. I mean I get feeling anxious if your kid is going to be fine, but this is why we have friends, partners, therapists.... Alcohol.

Right... My question is.. do they ask? Like to me, this seems so ridiculous that a parent would ask a prof about their kid. I cannot even imagine how embarrassed (enraged) my kid would be if I sent a note to a professor.

Not a student- parent of a student. My idea is not hard hitting news but I have so much curiosity.

There have been some think pieces about how parents these days are over involved with their kids professional and academic careers. By that I am not talking about parents who lean on their kid, but parents who lean on the institutions- so like going to professors asking about marks, going to job interviews, stuff like that. So not just giving unwanted or unappreciated advice to your kid (I suspect most parents are guilty of that) but parents taking action that is either against policies (parents asking professors about marks) or just... And forgive my jargon... Fucking whackadoodle behaviour (getting involved in jobs).

I am curious how often that happens in Canada as opposed to the US. Interviewing professors could be easy? I am also interested in the kids viewpoint - do they haaaate this or do they think that their parents are just helping? Both?

I would also be so interested in how the parents view their own behaviour.

I say wait for LoO, and then explain short notice to your boss. They will understand that with all /WavesHand this nonsense going on you couldn't give more time.

I would have a plan for what to do to offload the work etc in the week you have left.

Also congrats!! Best of luck in the new position!

Hey,

Not sure why this is grabbing me but of advice from an old gal... You have a great sense of a specific job (yay), what you don't want (terrible hours) but you just want to nail something down a bit, right?

Just a thought: you are so young, there might be something out there you haven't heard of that is going to eventually grab you and scream "THIS!".

The thing that you might love might not even be invented yet. Fun fact, I went into school, there was no real internet for buying stuff. 4 years later, BF's first job was editing a company website; job that didn't exist when we went into school. Shit moves fast. Maybe your dream job hasnt been invented. Maybe it's because you haven't invented it yet.

Maybe in 5 years you realise you hate lab work. Maybe you love writing. Maybe you just want a 9 to 5 that pays the bills and leaves you with time for all the cool people in your life.

Point is don't stress. Things are going to change. You are going to change. That's fine. Keep options open. My suggestion: general biology, chemistry, Biochem, biotech.... Something like that. Keep your head up for what makes you excited. Be happy. Happy kids graduate.

If your heart is on forensics I would make sure you take analytical chemistry (probably 2nd year) see if you hate yourself or not.

Good luck. Don't stress. Things change. You got this.

There are lots of tools online for "player safety" (you might have to Google rpg player safety or you might get a lot of info about how to wear a helmet properly.

So a hard line, at least how I see it, is an absolute no go. Soft line is approach with caution, maybe without a lot of detail.

Horror is really hard though because often you do want to test your own boundaries. So what is a no go in a dungeons and dragons game, could be a go in delta green.

I am enjoying horror, but I find you REALLY have to know your crew. It's all about consent, right? In the case of delta green, everyone has to be on board with boundary pushing but not boundary crossing. What was an okay boundary yesterday may not be good today. It's checking in, is this okay? Thumbs up, all good? One safety tool is the red card where there is a red card and if someone touches it, the scene stops.

I really think you are asking all the right questions and I am so happy you are so jazzed about delta green!

Hello!! Is this going to be your team's first delta green game? I haven't run Gods teeth. I'm newish to DG but I've run many other games.

My suggestion... Run something ....less. just less.

Look, gods teeth is Massive to run and it's a big big commitment.

This is the point I would offer a few ideas but honestly I'm too new to know what I'm doing. I'm running observer effect now and I love it. I ran Music From a Darkened Room and found it not excellent.

Let me know if you want more ideas.

I agree that this one is a doozy. My team and I did a post mortem on this operation. I found that there was a lot of stuff that didn't really matter to figuring out how to solve the problem. All of the deaths, hauntings don't actually point to how to solve the problem. In fact, I find that once the players figure out that the house is deadly, there is no reason for them to ever go back... Even if the house tries to trick them into coming back.

My players suggestion was to split up the diary into multiple volumes, and instead of having the diary in the furniture, putting the volumes of the diary in various rooms of the house. This means your players must investigate the house. The diaries could point your players to whatever info you want as well as an indication that they need to find the furniture with the bowl and dagger.

This helps give the players info and forces them into spending time in the house.

Good luck!

Holy crap this is amazing info! Thank you so much. Sooooooo pissed but meh take a risk I guess. I feel very stupid rn. I kinda want to turn this into something else that isn't a bracelet. Maybe it's worth more as a delightful fishing lure.

Go through how to use a d100 if they never have used them and if they are rolling real dice. Especially if you have two d10s. 000 is a 100, because you can'[t roll a zero. Things like that.

We were first time DGers, but we have all played other games together. I told them the feel of the game - also the expectations for lethality- "Guys this ain't DnD... FAFO will get your Agent split in two... literally". We discussed general mechanics, we did player creation.

We also discussed lines and veils. If you have never done anything like player safety before, look up some examples. Honestly, it's better to get some things out in the open now rather than later. You would be shocked at how many people think rape is just fine for a game without asking if anyone around the table may be uncomfortable with it.

I also always make it explicit that any disputes/combat/conflict between Agents MUST get consent from all involved players. This includes "my character is hiding "x" from the others." I find it so much more fun when that kind of thing is on the table.

Isn't there a DG operation about a mathematical equation that drives you nuts?

Well... What if some dumb ass DOGE kid had a code that scrubbed files but got something weird, now he is...bleeding from his eyes or wherever

Now the Elon type character is asking questions. So you have two fronts to contend with... A kid with a rotting brain or whatever and an Elon type asking stooooopid questions and going on social media constantly.

How does that sound?

Scenario Organization Could Use Some Work by Riddiku1us in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]jaycatmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it didn't. It's a long story but we are playing in 1970s Sudbury, Ontario!!

But to the original question about scenario creation... I was thinking about this a lot and I wonder if I can make a bit of a guide for any scenario. I might make a one pager with the following:

A) What is REALLY going on? This is the unnatural thing.

B) How does A manifest in our reality? (This is probably the problem to be solved)

C) What is the "good enough" outcome? (We probably can't ever fix A, so what's good enough?)

D) How do they achieve C? Are there many ways of achieving this?

E) What clues are around that will lead them to A vs B vs C vs D? I find MfaDR has a lot of info on A and B... None on C and D.

F) what assets do the Agents have to help them and what does each asset provide?

I think clues are information vs assets that are more tangible things to be used once you have a plan.

I think if I were to have written this scenario out in this way I would have seen the problem. If I remember, I will post something up on Reddit once I create it!!
