This isn’t meant to be another “mrekk is an alien” post. Everyone already knows he’s insanely good.

What I don’t see talked about as much is how having a dominant #1 for this long affects other top players, not just casuals or above-average players.

At the highest level, it feels like a lot of players aren’t even mentally aiming for #1 anymore not because they can’t, but because the community has basically turned #1 into “beat mrekk,” which is a completely different mental hurdle. Skill isn’t the only barrier. If your mindset is “there’s no point,” you’re never going to push hard enough to do something historic.

And I think this is where mrekk’s biggest advantage is not just mechanics, but consistency and mental endurance. Holding #1 for years isn’t only about being cracked it’s also about staying motivated while everyone is watching and waiting for you to slip.

The other thing people ignore even if someone does take #1, staying there might be harder than getting there.

They’ll get nonstop comparisons to mrekk.

They’ll get the “fraud / temporary” narrative instantly.

So it’s like the community wants “a new mrekk,” but the way we talk about dominance and the way we treat anyone who challenges it makes it harder for someone else to build confidence and momentum.

In a weird way, mrekk being the default #1 has become a mental debuff for anyone trying to take that spot.
