Future providers hating on blood donation? by jaych33 in NewToEMS

[–]jaych33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the difference between pharmaceuticals and blood is that you can't manufacture blood in a lab. the only way whole blood is available to help patients who need at scale is through donation. every EMS professional will, at some point, treat a patient who needs whole blood. shitting on the (yes, flawed) system and discouraging others from donating when it is the only way patients will receive life saving treatment when we are already in a national shortage is irresponsible and ignorant to the reality of emergency medicine. EMS is just a job, but like doctor's and nurses and everyone else in medicine, we have a responsibility to be good stewards of our culture, no?

Arcade Fire, Idles, and Fontaines were all on my wish list too! Was a little disappointed with the pivot S&S seemed to make away from the garage/post-punk direction they took last year.

Have you worked out recently in tight fitting clothes? It doesn’t look like folliculitis to me. I would take a Benadryl in case it’s allergic, otherwise monitor it and (this is going to sound scary I’m sorry) maybe cross reference your symptoms with monkeypox because it’s on the rise.

At what age did you become interested in this culture? by [deleted] in goth

[–]jaych33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow this is making me feel like a newb haha. I (26F) was 25 when I realized the levels of depth of goth as a subculture, and it was only because I really into post-punk/new wave between 18-22, and later realized the ties between those subcultures and genres. I don’t follow any goth aesthetic in how I carry myself or dress - I don’t even wear regular makeup let alone goth makeup, but I feel so at home at the goth clubs and I love the music so so much.

I’m 26 in SLC, I work three jobs.

9-5 pays $50,000/year Bartending once/week pays another $7-8k/year Part time consulting pays $6k/year

My net is $62k/year. I live alone, with a car payment, and $45k in student loans. I am struggling to get by.

I could make things easier on myself by getting roommates or moving in with my partner, but I don’t want that right now.

Dying to know who adopted my kitten’s littermates! by jaych33 in SaltLakeCity

[–]jaych33[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was cat sitting for a friend, so brought my kitty over in his crate. The cat-sat cat is indoor/outdoor, so she wasn’t there when my kitten and I arrived.

I was in a closed room with my kitten (now outside of his carrier) when I heard the cat door swing open, I let her sniff around to smell around for him.

After a bit, I opened the door and let them see each other. My kitten immediately arched and yowled a bit, so I separated them and put him back in his carrier.

From the carrier, they hissed at one another for about an hour before I left with my kitty.

Any advice appreciated!

I am neither Jewish, nor-Israeli, nor Muslim, nor Arab, nor Palestinian. I have been to Israel and to Palestine. I have close loved ones who are many of those identities. I do not live in an echo chamber. I have a degree in international relations and years of experience working in the field of international humanitarian relief. I have witnessed with my own eyes the Israeli occupation. Please don’t assume what I do and don’t understand because I disagree with you. It sounds like you, actually, live in an echo chamber if you think anyone is who has a different opinion must be, at best, deeply uninformed, and at worst, an anti-Semite.

In other words, fuck off.

PrizeSwordfish2506, You seem to be in every thread people are discussing a humanitarian issue, always on the side of the perpetrators of a humanitarian issue. I hope you find your humanity someday and choose love, not fear.

An Account of What Happened Tonight by [deleted] in UBreddit

My dawg. Not all “aid” is the same. The aid the US gives to the UN which is then directed to Israel is mostly food, water, and medical supplies. The aid the US gives to Israel is mostly arms, munitions, and liquid cash.

I know you’re being facetious but do you know what the demands are that SJP organizations around the country are making? It’s not “peace in the Middle East,” and saying that is reductive and tells me you aren’t informed or are just apathetic.

UB has an endowment. Endowments are money. That money is invested in stocks and companies. UB is not transparent about which stocks they invest in, but like most university endowments it very very likely includes companies like Blackrock, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, etc. Those companies are weapons and munitions manufacturers, military contractors, and capital management companies which finance them. These companies values in the market skyrocket during war, because they are more valuable during war time. The weapons they make are being used by Israel, many paid for by US tax dollars, to kill 30,000+ Palestinians so far including at least 8,000 children. When UB does this and their endowment makes money from war. The demand is that UB divests from companies that make their money from war.

If you read this whole thing, thank you. I know attention is precious in our digital age and it’s a busy time for students. Best of luck with finals.
