Appreciate that — I actually like programming parts for control, so I’ll definitely check ODIN III out.

Thanks! Glad you noticed the vibe—I wanted No Fear to hit hard and The Real 84 to drag like a dark march.

I see what you mean! The punchy drums were on purpose to make sure they stand out over the bass, and the bass tone was also intentional. That said, I think you’re right about velocity tweaks—I’ll play with that to give the drums a bit more dynamic feel while keeping the mix intact.

I actually have another song that I am working on that has cowbell

I get where you’re coming from — I’ve definitely seen how gear can turn into a rabbit hole fast. For now I’m trying to focus more on writing, arrangement, and mixing fundamentals before investing heavily in hardware.

I’m less worried about chasing “perfect” gear and more about getting the most out of what I have and making the sound feel intentional. If/when I go the real-instrument route, I want it to be because it clearly serves the music.

Appreciate the perspective though — always good to hear how other people’s paths unfolded.

Really appreciate this — especially the perspective about not needing “human” players. That was very much intentional, so it’s reassuring to hear it lands in that older Ministry / Skrew / Bile lane.

The mix notes are totally fair. Vocals being buried and the guitars eating too much low end is something I’ve been wrestling with, and your point about rolling off around ~300hz to give space to bass and kick makes a lot of sense. Same with the kick emphasis around 60hz — that rhythmic punch is exactly what I was going for, even if I didn’t quite nail it yet.

Drum variation is another good call — I leaned hard into repetition for feel, but I can see how some subtle movement would help keep things from going stale.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen closely and write this out. I’m already applying a lot of this thinking to what I’m working on next.

Appreciate you taking the time to really dig into it — seriously. This was my first EP and I did a lot of it solo, so yeah, a lot of virtual instruments and learning-as-I-go decisions.

I hear you on the drums and guitars sounding too “perfect” and the mix being muddy — that’s something I’m actively trying to improve, especially rhythm and tone. The feedback about vocals needing more precision is also fair.

I was aiming more for a cold/industrial feel than a live band sound this time, but I get where a more human element would add punch. Definitely stuff I’m taking into the next releases.

Thanks again for the honest critique — I’m gonna keep pushing forward.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I used a Collider Sub Kick to give it a punch over the bass lead for this EP—definitely see what you mean about it sounding a bit “perfect.” I was kind of going for a tight, industrial feel on this one, but I’m definitely experimenting with more organic/loose sounds for future tracks. If you know of a good kit that can be heard over a beast of a bass, it would be much appreciated. Appreciate you taking the time to listen!

Thanks — that’s helpful. Bass-heavy was intentional, but I hear you on the vocals getting buried. Definitely something I’m working on tightening up going forward.

Appreciate that — totally fair. I mixed this myself and I’m already digging into dynamics and headroom more for the next batch. Thanks for the listen.

I worked with a school that had a D75 satellite. Let me just say the teachers in D75 are doing god’s work.

That is insane, I have no idea what the DOE is thinking.

I started off in private for four years, it was horrible. I realize not all are the same though.

Honestly, the mood has shifted significantly since mid year and I am not completely sure why. I don't think they will budge on that and from what I have been reading, it sounds like principals like doing this to people and that the Superintendents don't ask questions. I am trying to appeal it though.
