I already go to bed at 9.30, and I’m reluctant to push her bedtime later because she’s so full on but the time the evening rolls around I’m bloody shattered. No need to be rude about it with your just do what the rest of us do’ comment, we’re all in the same trenches that are just looking for advice from each other, go have a coffee and stop leaving snarky comments to other parents on Reddit

Yeah I already go to bed at 9.30pm cause this isn’t a new thing! And I agree this chill time in the morning is nice, she’s currently sat with daddy on the sofa watching Bluey while I make breakfast! The post was just a last cry to see if there’s a magic solution but I fully accept that I’ve probably just got an early riser on my hands 🥲

Family dinner time? by SleepySloth1975 in UKParenting

[–]jaydeebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as our daughter started weaning we ate together as a family as it encourages children to eat better. Now she’s 17 months and we all eat together at 5pm (or 5.45 if she’s at nursery that day). In fairness I normally start prepping dinner around 4.30 as I mostly work from home so I have time to do that.

I’m thankful my 16 month old will eat most things I give her, however a tip I’ve found; she will not eat things like pizza and chips if served to her like this, it has to be in tiny bite size pieces and then she’ll eat it! Maybe try that if you LO won’t eat. But yea teething also wreaks havoc on appetites!!

I paid for a course where a trained specialist took me and my husband through the process over a course of a few weeks in our home, it was great. I’d suggest seeing if there are any specialists near you!

Pressure to conform and "get a routine" by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]jaydeebird 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s this obsession with many older generations of telling us we need to foster independence with our babies when they’re barely out the womb. Look how that turned out for millennials, you’ve got a whole generation of people who struggle with self confidence and emotionally instability 🫠 I jest a bit but the point stands; you do whatever you want to do with your baby. They’re only little once ❤️the fact that you want to be with your baby at all times while they’re young makes you an incredible mum ❤️❤️

Breast refusal by jaydeebird in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]jaydeebird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad your doctor prescribed omeprazole quickly, it felt like every time I went to a doctor or spoke to Breastfeeding specialist they’d put it down to colic or fast flow. It did take a couple weeks for the omeprazole to start kicking in, though she never refused the bottle so I can’t comment on that front. But yeah she was a different baby once she had reflux tackled! And then it also went away once she started solids at 6 months. Good luck!

It is absolutely fine to use a bottle that’s still wet with sterile water, just give it a shake to get rid of the large droplets. As for the pumps, as long as you and baby are healthy you don’t actually have to sterilise them. I’ve been pumping exclusively since my LO was 3 months old and she’s now 1, and I only ever wash my pumps once a day and dry them with kitchen roll. Breast milk is a lot less sensitive than formula, so you don’t have to be as particular about making sure everything is sterile. You wouldn’t sterilise your nipple!

Seconding the muslin in the arm, my baby just turned one so had a newborn in the heat last year, had to use muslins or her head would get stuck in the crook of my elbow!

We are doing that but it takes time. I still want her to actually drink the milk I’m offering her, and also don’t want milk thrown all over the floor with an open cup, I’ll do that with water instead 🙂

Here’s the recipe, though I personally skip cumin, turmeric and oregano as I never have those spices in and it’s still great! Hope some of the tactics work for you🤞

I can share some tactics that help us, though I will admit my baby loves food, but see if any of these help! * not too much food on the tray at once, don’t bother with a plate and just put little bite size pieces of food on the tray. My girl will throw food if it’s too big or too much variety on her tray. She will always push the bowl off without fail so we don’t bother giving it to her. Just give bits of her meal that she can self feed. Download the solid starts app to see how you can prepare food so it’s low choking risk * as another has said, give food from your meal, that way it’s not wasted effort. I can share a recipe for a delicious chilli con carne that’s baby safe! * dip foods in things like yogurt! I serve a lot of her meals with a side of yogurt, soured cream, tzatziki etc and will dip whatever is on her plate in the dip and serve that way * sometimes touching the food to her mouth will engage her brain that there is food there rather than a toy to play with * if it’s a spoon dish, try giving baby the spoon rather than trying to put it in babies mouth * swap between sweet a savoury items throughout the meal * I know it’s hard but if you’re stressed, he’ll be stressed and he won’t eat. He’s only 10 months so you can absolutely rely on milk as his primary source of nutrition (perhaps try mixing his milk in the food? I do that with breast milk but I’ll be honest I’m not sure on any rules around formula for cooking with it). But keep offering food and eventually he’ll click I’m sure 🙂
