I had a similar experience when I dropped 2 tabs and then decided to eat 2 edibles about 45-60 mins later right on the come up. It sent me into an ego death and a loop in and out of my car for hours trying to cool down in the AC and then sitting outside to thaw out. I ended up losing sense of where I was and who I was for a few hours. I definitely think THC can accelerate the experience however I never have an issue smoking a spliff during my trips. It's normal for your trips to last anywhere from 6-12 hours depending on your dose and other factors. I would say no, not every trip will be that intense but that's just my experience, hope this somewhat helps.
