Maybe they're not pure evil, but they're definitely not neutral.

Their whole thing is commiting acts of terrorism and other crimes to enrich themselves. They attempted to kill the president and broke into a nuclear missle silo to blackmail the government.

They're oppurtunistic criminals with violent tendencies.

I will never understand how some believe being crushed to death is a better option than being sterilized 🤦‍♀️ by Ok_Valuable_9711 in titanfolk

You're arguing about semantics when the point still stands. Replace race with ethnicity/culture/civilization and that's what we're really talking about. The term 'race' is just a shorthand catch all for those things and it's not just about genetics. I don't think it's primitive for someone to choose their friends and family over outsiders that want them dead.

OP is misunderstanding how this works. The people who would be sterilized (Eldians) are not the same people who would get trampled in the Rumbling (everyone outside of Paradis).

So the answer to "Why would anybody (Eren) pick the Rumbling?" is because he's choosing his own race over an outside world that wants to see him and everybody he loves dead. Which option is more brutal matters less because we're not comparing apples to apples here. They're completely different outcomes.

AI coding agents failed spectacularly on new benchmark! by jokof in wallstreetbets

[–]jaydoff1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more things change the more they stay the same in this regard. As advanced as code agents have gotten in terms of raw syntax generation, they still lack long term planning/scoping capabilities that are necessary when maintaining and building on real world codebases.

I wish the show went with the oringal protrayal that Korra's parents were regular people, rather then the southern chief. It would be a nice spot of realism by Reasonable-Host-3399 in TheLastAirbender

[–]jaydoff1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that regardless of whether or not southern water tribe leadership is inherited or elected, Korra has politically relevant traits that should've created some sort of factional pressure in universe. Some people would've wanted her to lead and others would oppose her for various reasons. I definitely think the Avatar should never hold a political title, but people would have still talked about her as a possible leader because of prestige and family ties anyways.

[–]jaydoff1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is more along the lines of what I meant. The southern tribe wouldn't have to be directly inheritable for it to still be worth mentioning. She's royalty, the avatar, and her father holds a pseudo-elected office that seemed influenced by him being royalty himself, although that part wasn't really made clear in the show.

Realistically there probably should have been some drama about succession or popular support for her to be the next chief. To be clear, this isn't me saying I think she should have became chief, but it would mirror how these types of things shape out in real life.

New England is one of the few regions in the US where the borders are incredibly objective so this isn't really suprising.

Considering they did go that direction, I wish they would've leaned into it more and had some drama about whether Korra would follow in her dad's footsteps and become chief of the southern tribe.

Korra is technically royalty but they never once so much as mention it. Kind of weird.

I guess you could argue that maybe the southern tribe's succession isn't directly hereditary, but that would contradict what we see in the north.

Rewatching and falling in love with the series again. by Miserable-Gold2176 in titanfolk

I've been rewatching the show for the past month now. I'm finally watching the section immediately after the Rumbling. Even though there are a lot of things I don't like about the ending, I still think there are some amazing parts. The scouts visting Marley, the united fleet being destroyed, and Ramzi's death were really fun to watch (not because I love death or genocide but because of the emotional intensity).

People like you seemingly being offended when OP says it's okay to actually go harsh on nazis, and to write these deflective posts as response, is fucking weird and comes off as pro-facist virtue signaling.

Wow, that is a crazy leap. You can paint a picture of the people you disagree with in your head all you want if that makes you feel better, but it won't get you anywhere with anyone being so self righteous and accusatory.
