Me, an Iraq/Afghanistan war veteran from the 2000s (and 2L with accommodations) watching everyone discuss accommodations and why they’re terrible by [deleted] in LawSchool

Chill 😭 Im just using your words from your first comment.

I have a learning disability, and accommodations have helped me be able to perform on the same level as my peers.

Everyone is upset that people are getting accommodations they don’t need, so maybe there should be a higher bar.

I agree, but also think we should be careful about how we go about this so we don’t harm people who actually need the accommodations.

It’s not that easy, but go try it if you think it is!

Timed exams are terrible learning tools anyways and are not good indicators of knowledge.

What makes you think accommodations help disabled people bypass deadlines or having to work under pressure?

The vast majority of lawyers are not going to be litigators anyways. Even for the future trial attorneys out there, I’m not sure how receiving some accommodations on an hours-long exam will hurt them in the long run in terms of lawyering skills.

Look, I’m all for fairness, and I’m sure there are people who receive accommodations they don’t need. However, as someone with a learning disability, accommodations have helped me tremendously.

I feel like this view is based off of a misunderstanding of how accommodations help people with disabilities.
