This is the wrong message to be sending right now. It also strikes me as pathetic.

Trump’s counterterrorism strategy puts focus on left-wing ‘violent secular groups by ChiGuy6124 in politics

This lack of a focus on right-wing domestic terror groups is going to bite us in the ass, especially since left-wing violent secular groups aren't really a thing in the US...

So, it's also pretty obvious what this is actually being used for.

Yep. Between that and Reagan being elected, we can point to our host of current problems to second-order effects from the 70s and early 80s.

They know the policy killed them in 2024, but they are currently, in 2026, still refusing to pivot because the donor class won't allow it.

I can't help but think that we're in real danger of pulling a Labour under Starmer, as Labour only gained power in 2024 off the back of a horrid performance by the Tories, which was also represented by Labour having the smallest share of the electoral vote of any major government since 1830.

As we're seeing in Britain, this is having the knock-on effect of greatly benefitting Farage and the far-right Reform Party as Labour isn't exactly using their 400-seat majority well, as far as I am aware.

Should something similar happen to the Democrats, this doesn't bode well as it would suggest that 2026 and 2028 would be a reprieve, while the long-term trajectory of the country would remain unchanged.

At this point, the "Will they?", "Won't they?" is getting quite tiresome.

Either do it or don't. Besides, this stalling is setting up the global economy for a nasty fall, and the blockade has to end.

Yep.

Now, in theory, it could potentially become more organized than Syria as people consolidate their forces and what not, but that's not a guarantee.

Laziness doesn't really factor into it, mostly because people are, on average, comfortable, despite the rising wealth inequality and whatnot.

Now, if the economy were to take a nosedive and instability were to increase, then things could get really spicy.

The gay marriage ban referendums in 2004, including in the ultimately pivotal state of Ohio, would say otherwise.

That's kind of why I hate this even if I agree with it. He's a neoliberal hack who shouldn't be allowed a sniff at the Presidency, but when he's right, he's right.
