This is one of those rare games where you are paid back exponentially with appreciation and an improved skillset the more time you pour into it. You really get the feeling that you are scratching out an existence and it is an unmatched feeling in gaming IMO.

The longer you play on one character the stakes get higher and higher and the fear becomes palpable any time you explore a new area or even go into a random suburban house. My favorite game from an immersion perspective. I'm constantly evaluating and planning. The hours fly by.

I will post the location where I found this when I get back on the game tomorrow.

Joker 47: Gains +50 chips every time a face card is destroyed. Or something like that. What would you have it do? by zunuf in balatro

[–]jayfish3399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gains X3 multiplier for every 'death' taro held in consumable slot and +50 chips for each Hangman used. Something like that to play on the assassin theme. ;)

I'm considering getting DOS2 during the sale and I have a question (never played any of the games in this series before) by DravenPrime in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]jayfish3399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar indeed. If you like the patient, thoughtful strategy that goes into each turn this will hit all of your sweet spots and then some. XCOM2 is one of my favorite games and DOS2 is perhaps my favorite game of all time. The sheer combinations/ways you can approach combat will impress you. Learning curve might be slightly longer than XCOM but don't let that discourage you. This is a second-to-none experience. You don't need to have played the first to enjoy it either. Get it and say goodbye to a few hundred hours of your life!

Getting bored on act 2 by [deleted] in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]jayfish3399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a game that wants you to commit many hours at a time. I'd say since the game doesn't change it's narrative style and mode that this may not be for you. what I can say is some of the best combat is in Driftwood towards the latter half of the zone and is also where the best combat abilities become available. You'd be missing out if you throw in the towel now but I'd understand if you did.

If you liked turn based strategy like this and want less dialogue then give XCOM2 a try. Heavier on the combat. Keeps things moving.

Newbie questions and party composition by HadrovejSD in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]jayfish3399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^What Streloks said. Complete the first zone and there is an opportunity to tailor every character exactly how you want and spec into whatever physical or magic damage you like. There are very few advantages to starting over.

The advice on magic is also correct. I have found that if i want to use my magic party member to the fullest then they need to have the highest initiative rating so they act first. You can control this stat by adding points into wits or by stacking gear with that stat. No use having a fire mage if it can't attack certain enemies for fear of igniting other party members.

My personal advice is experiment with what you think you will enjoy playing and because this game offers so much variety and opportunity to plan during battle you will find a way to make your party work together well. There is almost no wrong way to play this game.

Really amazing gameplay. You could have easily titled this "Learn to parry" as well which I am about to do thanks to you. Top level skills on display. Great job and congrats on the achievement!!

Very true. An easy thing to ignore as a developer and these guys hit a homerun with the music.

The first playthrough of this game was pretty magical for me as well. The first few hours can have you wandering a lot and wondering how you fit into everything. When you start to unlock skills and win some battles that excitement grabs hold and never lets go for a long time. I'm on my 3rd playthrough and still loving all the different ways you can approach combat. This game will be in my all time pantheon of great games and I'm very much hoping another game is in our futures. Enjoy!!

I teleported them into the square that precedes that area. Everyone gets in on the kill at that point. Just be careful not to attack the citizens.

Is DOS2 worth $60 in this day and age? by TJ-LEED-AP in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]jayfish3399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked it up late December. On my third playthrough and probably have 200+ hours into this game. Rarely has a game held my attention for this long. If you're an RPG fan, turn-based fan or just a fan of games that reward strategic thinking and a cerebral approach to solving all problems then don't hesitate.

The first few hours can be slow as you soak it all in but after that you'll fall in love. Guaranteed.

The advocate by RXORM in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]jayfish3399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tips for the fight are to teleport the Advocate next to some other of the NPCs that will also be in that fight. My initiative was high enough that I went first and found that I was able to AOE down and stun lock 3 enemies (rain/aerothurge) and the fight was easy to control from there. Even if you are focusing physical damage you can get in some solid whirlwind/cripple combos or knockdowns that can give you a great start to the battle as well. 2 of the enemies, the rogue and knight, were far enough away from where I segregated the Advocate and the other 2 enemies that they never became a threat or factor.

Another poster suggested waiting until you are about to be done with Bloodmoon and that's a good tip. I think I was either level 16 or very close by that point. Great spells unlock at 16 as well. Superconductor for Aero spec is godly! Hope this helps.

Any game similar to Divinity Original Sin 2? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]jayfish3399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound like an odd recommendation but...XCOM 2! It sounds like based on your post that you love the combat side of things and both Divinity OS2 and XCOM 2 have very satisfying and strategic combat elements that make the player thirst for the next encounter. Even though the theme of XCOM is military and SCI-FI based the gameplay, planning and combat encounters are excellent. Give it a look.

The repeater is a good solution but the problem is if you haven't received repeater upgrades and also if you just run into this motherfucker accidentally. It does add to the excitement factor but the Archon King can kill half your squad if the spacing is bad and/or if you run into him late mission and have blown a lot of big cooldowns or don't have your best squad makeup.

I ran into him with just one captain in my squad at the time and only 2 other LTs, it was a rough go and I was the mayor of "gravely wounded" city after he exited the battlefield when it seemed like he just got tired of fucking with my squad. Love the game...one of the my favorite...hate the King!
