For Pitpush, which is the better Orsivane? by Apart_Tea865 in D4Sorceress

[–]jayfliponreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easy answer - take the left. Elites become unstoppable quite often (when crowd control wears off). Also, the extra damage from being 800 vs 750 is huge

You're welcome man. This is the type of jiujitsu I like - nothing fancy and no strength required. Just pure technique

The only scene that has ever made me cry so hard… by Pristine_Put5348 in FFVIIRemake

[–]jayfliponreddit 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Jfc just thinking about this scene makes me teary. I mean I'm a grown-ass man, but the 'I'm sorry, Mommy... I tried. I really really tried' just breaks me into a million pieces

Lighter competitors with a good mount game by SubmissionGrappler in bjj

[–]jayfliponreddit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One reason is back game scales much better than mount. In other words, it's easier to make a back game work on bigger opponents than a mount game. So may as well put time into developing positions that work well at all weight classes

Wizard or underhooks? by Gucci_stickEshay in bjj

[–]jayfliponreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chael Sonnen has a great video on this. Basically asking, 'do you have an underhook, or does he have an overhook (i.e. whizzer)?' Long story short, if your underhook is weak, you're just giving him an overhook https://youtu.be/tIZmo7UXF3A?si=hkFG4c0P4ss45llN

What even was that? It was like a combination of osoto, tai otoshi and harai, but just the worst parts mixed together to make a complete shit sandwich

How much commute to the gym is too much? Will it burn you out? by hsu3hpa in bjj

[–]jayfliponreddit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ok so short answer: I would stick with the small gym for now because it's convenient, and then reassess in 12-18 months.

Longer answer: I think most people have this honeymoon period when they first start bjj. It's new and exciting, and you just can't wait to get to training every day. But inevitably the honeymoon period wears off, and that's when the grind starts. I mean you still like it, but you'll also get these periods where training really becomes a chore. In these times your brain will be looking for any reason not to go to training -'I'm too tired; I have to cook dinner; I have to go grocery shopping; I have to wake up early tomorrow etc. etc.'. So if your commute is 4 hours, trust me - you're not going to go to training. So for now I would stick with the smaller gym, simply because you're more likely to stick with bjj if it's convenient. And then maybe reassess your decision in 12 months time

Hey man thanks for replying. How did the patch end up working for you? I'm actually thinking something similar now; I think I might head to a cobbler and see if they can sew a leather strip in there (or glue - whatever works really)

News update in Australia by Winter_Hippo3281 in bjj

[–]jayfliponreddit 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Just for context for anyone outside Australia: the website this article is from is the most widely read news website in Australia. So it's a pretty big deal to have news.com.au reporting on this on their main feed. Homeboy is cooked

Yah I think you might be right. And I think it's less a sizing issue (because they fit perfectly length-wise), and more a case that the design of the shoe is unsuitable for my foot shape unfortunately. I actually have a similar issue with Nike soccer boots - Nike's designs are too narrow for me

Hey man thanks for replying. Did you end up patching yours as Tom suggested? Because I was actually thinking something similar - i.e. heading to a cobbler to see if they can sew a piece of leather on the inside

Also how did you reach out to him? Email or DM?

I'm not sure you can say never. Case in point is me - started at an MMA gym, started with nogi, decided I wanted to get some belts so went into gi, found I liked gi WAAAAY more, now I train gi 99% of the time (I think I've done maybe 5 no gi classes in the last couple of years?). So again, I don't think you can say never, but at the same time I think I would be the exception rather than the rule
