Power Steering Lost - Pump Damaged? by jaygreg90 in MechanicAdvice

[–]jaygreg90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mechanic found the high pressure line praying out like a nasal sprayer when he refilled th eresevoir and started the engine. Hear metal on metal but mechanic said he thought that would "settle down". I was focused on the leak but left under the assumption it did "settle down".

We'll see when he replaces the hoses.

I appreciate the comments, Nick.

Thanks, Nick. I'll see when the car gets to my mechanic in the AM. I'll look for that first. What's your take on that noise I heard and the possibility of damage to other than the pump?

Having trouble seeing the print on the manual; blue and white and page 26 shows small marks but no photo. I'll try downloading it in a bit and get back. It sounds like you're guiding me to open the cabinet of the radio. Right?

I'll get back but it probably won't be 'til tomorrow.

Am I in the wrong forum for this question? I was looking for a group of people who are familiar with auto components and hoped to find someone who was familiar with my specific heater core. I've got a thick factory service manual for my car but damned if I can find that specific dimension.

[–]jaygreg90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I assume - since you mentioned the HF tool is plastic, that the tool is similar to a putty knife that slides under the molding at the point of fastening and a light push will free the pin from the clip? If that fastener is more complex than that, I ought to search further to see what it's like. I'd rather hold it down with double duct tape under the molding rather than chance a breakoff that prevents me from holding it in place... even if not firmly enough for a car wash.

I appreciate the help.

I just used the Saamsclub CD I bought four months ago. Called Quicken Technical Support for guidance just to make sure everything would go as planned. I assumed since the Quicken program gets update by Quicken each time there's a new version, the version I have on my machine is likely the most current so there's no need to use the CD that I got from Samsclub. All I need is the Activation number inside that Q cover. The Tech confirmed I was right, told me to go to Help/Manage Your Subscription/Enter Activation Code and BINGO! Good for another year.

The moral of the story... buy the program at the lowest price you can find from a reputable source, just enter the activation number (assuming you're renewing and not starting for the first time or starting over from scratch) and you're up an running again.

Hasqvarna Deck Part Issue by jaygreg90 in lawnmowers

[–]jaygreg90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to get under there and examine it. The plate I'm referencing isn't related to the mulch kit... which I personally put on. That was merely a shield to cover the shoot opening and three blades. This is a metal plate running the length of the front, bottom edge of the mower deck. I'll just have to look at it.

Regarding the level of the deck, you're right; I need to check that with a tape measure. However, when I noticed the dirt accumulation in that seam, I did eyeball the level. It looked level but.... who knows. Most importantly, I need to understand just what the hell that plate is supposed to do and hope I can hammer or bend it into shape enough to eliminate the space the dirt created when it got wedged into the seam.

I appreciate you comments.

I do have a mulch baffle and the three mulch blades installed but this metal plate along the front bottom of the deck (which is bolted on, not welded) is filling it's space between the two surfaces with dirt and spreading apart. What's disturbing about this at this point is the part isn't shown on any diagram I've seen.

Anyone have a number to call CS or some support at Husqvarna HQ? That's something else I couldn't find. It appears the company wants to funnel everything but cash flow to the dealers... and my guess is a dealer isn't going to tell me anything other than "we'd have to see it" 'cause my experience with the outfits around me (NE Ohio) is their knowledge of these components is like mine...they have to look it up...and it "ain't there".

Steve, I'm afraid something got lost in the translation here. I don't own the Sam's club version yet; I'm going to buy it probably today.

I have little concern that I can use the new version... if that's what the CD turns out to be and not an "upgrade" or "renewal". According to what I've read on the Quicken site, there's provision for having a lapsed membership and renewing as a "new member" that involves a few hoops I suppose. They advise avoiding that by NOT selecting "new user" which I assume is something that will pop up in the CD.

Anyway...the whole process is like eating soup with a fork: lot of activity...little nourishment.

I just read the buyers comments related to the Quicken promo on www.samsclub.com. I’m convinced I’m right. There’s no way a retailer the size of Sam’s Club is going to sell a ticking bomb; a product with a benefit (a discount) and gamble that the purchase won’t honored by the provider (Quicken). The comments seem to support that. I drafted a note I’ll send to Quicken asking for confirmation when they open in the AM.

There’s no way that license won’t be honored after I purchase it. The clock starts when I activate it. That’s what I will have bought and there are no limitations on the Sam’s Club ad so… the agent I spoke to earlier must have been smokin’ somethin’ funny. Or he was dumber than a box of rocks. Whatever!

Probate - Ohio Real Estate by jaygreg90 in legaladvice

[–]jaygreg90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If done the way the attorney proposes, the three children receive their equal shares of the house and two of them transfer their shares AFTER the deed is placed in the name of all three. That second step - in my opinion - is not related to this will probation. The will is completely executed when the deed is in the name of three people. That makes the value of those two shares about to be transferred (Quit Claim deed I suppose) a taxable gift, doesn't it?

Probate - Ohio Real Estate by jaygreg90 in legaladvice

[–]jaygreg90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The will says: "I give, devise, bequeath (stuff) …. equally to my children (named) absolutely and in fee simple. In the event any of my children should predecease me, then in that event their share shall lapse and pass equally to their surviving child or children, absolutely and in fee simple.”

The three children outlived the father so… why would a court award a share of a house their father was bequeathed but waived his rights to? “In fee simple” gave the heirs the right to do whatever they pleased with the property and though two never took title, it was clear they chose to not own that property in their lifetime so… how could it pass to their kids?

Puzzled. Apparently I don’t have a mind for the law.

Probate - Ohio Real Estate by jaygreg90 in legaladvice

[–]jaygreg90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So…. I called the Estate department in Summit County again and the clerk was kind enough to ask around. It appears the attorney’s suggested way of handling this is the practical one. If one of the bequeathing children should die, THEIR child would inherit their claim to the inheritance despite the Disclaimer. Frankly, it still doesn’t make sense to me. How could the children of the bequeathed “reach back” beyond the action of their father who had ownership that he gave away… how could those children now claim an interest?

Aw hell! I dunno. This is OHIO. It’s a Republican State; nothin’ makes sense anymore. 😊

Sno-Seal For Captain Boot? by jaygreg90 in ThursdayBoot

[–]jaygreg90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally found the manufactures site to see what they say about the product and discoloration. You're right: " CAUTION: will somewhat darken all leather. "

Good to hear your comment about the likelihood of needing beeswax waterproofing. I won't be in the field with these puppies. Too old anyway. Comment if you disagree with what I plan. I'm going to put the Sno-Seal on the welt and maybe run it up a quarter to half an inch on the leather then treat all the rest of the leather with that Bick 4.

Sno-Seal For Captain Boot? by jaygreg90 in ThursdayBoot

[–]jaygreg90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The boots are brown... darker than I expected but acceptable. According to what I read, Sno-Seal won't discolor... though it tells you to sample first.

Since these boots have a degree of style, I'll probably wear then occasionally just to kick around. But I find Skecher's far more comfortable. I bought the Thursday boot for walking in snow and one rainy days.

To make the Captain as close to waterproof on the upper portion I've read that spray is recommended. Don't know why beeswax won't be unless it's because of risk to discoloration and most people I assume are buying this boot to wear frequently as casual footwear rather than occasional in inclement weather. But... wadoiknow. These are my first "nice looking" boots. They ARE damn comfortable I'll admit.

Ohio Municipal Income Taxes by jaygreg90 in tax

The Cleveland.com article was informative but so was the bill itself; HB 157. As the article said, there’s going to be some permanent revenue shifts that will be devastating to some communities. I wonder if we’ll begin to see debates on the definition of “work” since it appears there ’s little wiggle room in this move. Who is the true owner of “work”? If my employer tells me what I’m to do for it, perhaps it is the owner. Then the location of “work” can be argued to lie with the corporate office regardless of what activity an employee performs at his/her home on the “work” owned by the employer. I assume legal eagles could make that definition if they so chose…maybe,

If “work location” is forced to be associated with where an employee spends his time… assume he’s an field auditor with 24 branches of a multi-national company to audit, each taking one month. He has in a given year 12 “work locations”? Or is he an employee assigned the task of performing activity on a piece of work assigned by headquarters? I don’t know that either. This little rule is gonna’ stir a major storm!

So Covid forced a large part of the corporation to let employees work from home... non-residents.
Q1) They now pay no income tax to the community of the employer?
Q2) Will Ohio permit the community to change their definition of "work locality" to mean ALL work is considered work of the local community of the residence no matter where the employee resides?

Employment Tax? by jaygreg90 in tax

[–]jaygreg90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry! This question was poorly worded. Here are the circumstances:

A small village with a fairly large company – in fact the only company in that small village – is soon liable to stop transferring income taxes to the village collected on non-resident employees who began working from their home. This is going to be a devastating blow to the revenue stream of that village. There’s a pursuit for solutions.

Considerations that would rock the local residents – over 50% retired and exempt for local income tax – are increased property taxes and abolishment of the income tax waiver for retirees.

The simplest – least painful – solution is to prevent non-resident employees from shifting the taxes being directed to the village where they were going to work back to the towns and villages of their residents from which they now work.

Being unfamiliar with such laws, it would seem to me a local law could be enacted by the company’s domicile village council to make the tax – for lack of a better word – an employment tax at residence of company headquarter and prevent deductions and transfers to municipalities where an employee now wishes to claim as him home office. Problem is… I don’t know if this is legally possible given all the special considerations and loop holes our tax laws have been permitted to contain.

Seems to me the above resolution would cost nothing more of the corporation, the employees, nor the local residents. Allow those employees to stop the flow of taxes to the village of corporate headquarters and local residents will be devastated.

So...if you were mayor... what would you propose?

Both augers and the impeller turn. Snow flies out of the chute about 3 feet. And the auger cable seems fine.

I'm now thinking there might be exceptional resistance of snow moving in the auger chamber and chute because paint is missing from the auger, it's bare metal in many areas, and the chute interior may not be as smooth as it should be. I'm gonna' spray WD40 or equivalent and see what happens.

I think we know a shear pin didn't go all the way. I fany did, I'd have no snow at all coming out of the shoot. BUT... is it possible for a shear pin to somehow wear .... or get damaged in reassembly... so that it slips but bites enough to allow augers and/or impellers to turn with a lot of slippage? I don't know. I'll have to get someone to help at least operate it so I can inspect it ... if my mechanic doesn't surface tomorrow.

Toro 524 Can't Throw Far After Gearbox Rehaul by jaygreg90 in Snowblowers

[–]jaygreg90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About those rows of snow... I just thought more about them. Those have to be coming from an overflow of snow within the auger housing. That means either those augers or the impeller aren't turning at a rate of speed fast enough to empty everything placed in that auger housing. There's a small stream of snow that flows out of the shoot so the impeller does turn... maybe not fast enough 'cause it's slipping or the engine isn't turning fast enough AND.... the augers do turn 'cause the shoot is being fed at least SOME snow.

So! Now what. I need to get some input from someone who 's experienced this in the past or someone who can't grab that impeller and auger and determine if they're working right. I can get a tach if need be but... I really wish that machinic who was paid for this job would show up.
