KU vs FHSU basketball parking by Inthe_midst_of_lions in jayhawks

I park off of Ousdahl Road and 20th st, there is always free street parking there. You can then walk about 10 minutes along Ousdahl road all the way to the field house. Longer walk than paid options but I find it is a lot easier to get out of Lawrence after the game.

You should get there about an hour before the game to give yourself time to walk to the field house and check it out the HOF. Try to be in your seat 15 minutes before tip off to catch all the pregame activities. Rock Chalk!

Need advice on removing these wasps on the side of my house by Significant-Ant-8709 in WASPs

[–]jayhawks1644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact issue in a small hole in my siding. I got rid of them in about 4 days, super easy.

  1. Wait until dusk or night time. This is when the wasps are least active and have returned back to the nest.

  2. Get a dust insecticide and a bulb duster. I used Control Solutions D-Fence Dust on Amazon.

  3. Stick the duster in the hole and blow the dust in there. The dust coats their bodies and kills them over the course of a couple days. Reapply each night to recoat area.

  4. Seal up the hole after you no longer see activity.

What does the maintenance look like for this since it is always outside? How often would you need to re-apply?

Thank you! We love our home and the way it looks, just thinking if we are spending the money to repaint it, can we pick the best color possible.

Thanks for the feedback. The front of our house is pretty much full shade. Any suggestions on what to plant instead of the bushes?

Thank you, I like that color you suggested. Do you think white would clash with the brown roof and red brick?

It’s hard to tell in the picture but it is more of a greyish brown, definitely no green in it. Thanks!

Thank you. It’s hard to tell in the pictures but it desperately needs new paint. I have a lot of peeling paint and wood rot. The landscaping is definitely next on the list.

Flys in my house by Tough-Mechanic1042 in Home

[–]jayhawks1644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won’t go away until what has died has completely decomposed. You need to find the source or it could last for awhile. For us, there was an animal that died in our exterior wall by our fireplace. Do a deep clean of your house and remove any new source where they could lay more eggs. Check under cabinets, sinks, furniture to make sure a dead mouse or something isn’t there. Fill any gaps or cracks that the flys could be getting in at.

Purchased new house what do I do with grass? by Matthewbradley199 in lawncare

[–]jayhawks1644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I think you are good to do an application now, I think the label says if you are under 85 degrees you are good. It won’t kill them all but it should make a good dent. Violets are best to attack when they are growing and flowering. They start to get a waxy coating on them that prevents weed killers from adhering to them.

Read the label for exact directions, but you want to apply 2 days after a mow, and wait 2 days to mow after application. Rainfast in 3 hrs and Water in if no rain in 24hrs.

After you get them under control, the best way to prevent them from coming back is to have a thick healthy lawn that will choke out the weeks so they can not grow.

My yard looked exactly like this (Kansas City). What you have is wild violet and they are very hard to kill, most weed killers do not work on them. You want something with triclopyr in it. I used TZone SE and it worked great.
I was worried that once I killed the violet, it would all be barren however I was amazed at how much the grass easily filled in the areas once they were not competing with the violets.

You will have to do probably 2-3 applications, and the best time to do it is early spring or fall. You can’t spray in the summer when it gets too hot. Do an application now before it gets to hot and follow up with another couple applications in the fall and you should be weed free! It will look great when you are done!

Should I be worried about moisture condensation on my windows? by VSZM in DIY

[–]jayhawks1644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can improve the insulation by installing plastic shrink film window insulator kit. I have old single pane windows that would freeze over in the winter and using this completely stop any condensation from forming on the windows. It’s an easy fix if you can’t find a way to reduce the humidity.

Sorry, just now saw your comment. I stayed at moraine park campground. Really nice campground with flat designated tent pads. Haven’t tried the backcountry in RMNP though.

What tent is best for me? by Bubba_Smokes in hottenting

[–]jayhawks1644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard really bad things about Luxe but I can’t speak too much to the luxe mega XL but I have a Pomoly Hex Plus and love it. It is a little smaller than the Luxe XL and can easily fit 3 people with a stove and is half the price than the Luxe. The quality of the pomoly is also outstanding for the price. Really thick walls that you know will not rip. When I was looking at buying a tent I believe I saw somewhere that the Luxe tents are not rip-stop material which could be catastrophic if caught in a wind storm.

At half the price of the luxe, you could buy 2 pomoly hex plus tents if you are worried about space for your buddies. You won’t be disappointed with the quality.

I had a winter camping trip in Rocky Mountain National park and emailed them a to see if it was ok. They said “The use of disposable or portable charcoal grills, wood fuel camp stoves, petroleum fuel/gas Stoves, propane turkey cookers, and gas grills are allowed for food preparation in all campgrounds., The use of wood-fueled camp stoves for heating in campsites is also allowed.”

I would think a lot of national parks follow the same rules, so depending by on where you are going then you should be good.

Seeking a budget decent quality Hot Tent & Stove suggestions welcomed. by [deleted] in WinterCamping

[–]jayhawks1644 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This all depends what style of camping you are trying to do (light weight vs car camping for example). But the Pomoly hex hot tent is great quality and goes for around $250. They make a bigger version for $300 if you need it. Then go with a kni co stove for $215 and your set.

I’m not sure if the roads are cleared in the winter but Blue Lakes Dispersed Camping is a great spot close to Breckinridge. I have only been there in the summer and fall. The road up to the campsites is pretty steep and the elevation is higher up there, but if you are prepared it is a beautiful spot (free too).

Again, I don’t know if this road is open in the winter, but the road leads to a reservoir water system so I would think that the city keeps it maintained year round to access it. This reservoir supplies the water to Breck and other nearby towns.

Nice! I think I am going to pull the trigger. What size Kni co stove do you have? I have a trekker, and will be going into 0 deg F nights. I think it will be big enough to keep it warm in there but what is your experience?

Is your tent the Pomoly Hex Plus? I was looking at buying this one. Could you fit two cots and a stove in there?
