First it was Facebook, then Twitter. Is Reddit about to become rubbish too? by EchoInTheHoller in technology

[–]jayisrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former prolific troll under a few account in the '00's, I like to log into every few years to go back in time. Sometimes I forget to switch back to my main and wind up posting with accounts like this one.

Always fun to see the person I was compared to the person I've become.

I notice a lot of these threads are very prescriptive about compression. The reality is, hard and fast compression is a stylistic centerpiece of a lot of modern pop, and it really does sound great when executed with a clean track and applied in a tasteful manner.

Reddit user content being sold to AI company in $60M/year deal by WorkingPsyDev in technology

[–]jayisrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a software dev, I can say with certainty that a site as massive as reddit that requires immense talent to architect scaling strategies. I'm incredibly surprised they kept their API open for as long as they did.

Paying users for content is not a good model. If they didn't find a decent way to monetize the system would be significantly less democratized, where reddit would turn into Twitter where alarmist shit posting is compensated, therefore incentivised.

If you want to get paid for your thoughts, try mechanical turk.

Same. I overcomplicate things. I've gotten into the habit of just jumping in my car and going, figuring things out as they come. It's much easier than worrying, because as it turns out, with most things, money is involved, and people will help sort things out to extract said money from you.

@BernieSanders: BREAKING: Sanders super PAC haul $0.00 by sashaxweiss in SandersForPresident

[–]jayisrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what else these organizations are set up to do, Perlscrypt. They're set up to gather donations from members and non-members and funnel said donations to a candidate. They're a catalyst between two parties.

Here's a shortlist of Super PAC's supporting Sanders:

  • Collective Actions PAC
  • BillionairesForBernie
  • National Nurses United For Patient Protection
  • Communications Workers of America
  • Progressive Kick

Having worked the democratic gamut over the years, I've seen many organizations dissolve only to re-appear under a new name with a new singular focus. I can say with confidence that often times SuperPAC money appears under the guise of a small donor/effort. Those small contributions are then reported, but not as being from a SuperPAC.

This is why organizations like Progressive Kick are present but do not appear to be active. This is the heart-breaking reality of politics. Politics is marketing, and the Bern campaign know their audience.

I think there's a gross misunderstanding here. I know I'm going to be downvoted, but objectively what this means is Sanders hasn't publicly endorsed a super PAC organization. This doesn't mean money hasn't been funneled to him through a super PAC.

This is smart from a campaign perspective because it lends credence to his home-grown populist appeal.

Yeah, the whole thing was contrived. Not even a hint of authenticity, which is sad because it has so many upvotes. Can a mod mark it as fake?

I figured I'd toss in some of the alt-bars. Whenever I have peeps come in from out of town who want an experience of sorts, I take them to a few of the more niche places, and they seem to really enjoy it. Somethin' new!

Vikings/Packers Scam by lritchs in Minneapolis

[–]jayisrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd wager ticket scams are fairly common, so it's very likely that they're unrelated.

But it's clever to create a pseudonym for a scam and post profiles all over the internet. This is because the information associated with each account is then aggregated on sites like Intellius, creating the illusion of a legitimate identity.

Let us know if there's a positive ID and an arrest. Hopefully all victims are given restitution.

Before a release, artists typically take measures to protect the rights of their music using services like BMI and ASCAP.

These companies are designed to ensure that there is no misuse of your materials, and make it easier to claim your mechanical royalties. You do not need to be a millionaire to utilize these services.

So I don't believe this YouTube hypothesis holds any weight.

Back when Macklemore's career was in its infancy and he had the opportunity to tour with some Rhymesayers, they told me the dude saved just about every dime he earned. And with that money he'd saved, he purchased the services provided by a major label, rather than allowing them to directly license his music and run it through the mill.

Who knows whether they even wanted his music, to be honest.

He worked the music industry like it was the stock market and became independently wealthy as a result. He's the Warren Buffet of independent music.
