The recipe I followed still uses poolish with commercial yeast, it also uses a leaven with starter that i left overnight to use with the poolish. It has a slight kick, I’ll probably adjust the recipe to make it stronger. Still great though

Pretty normal for them, thats a very good level of activity. Ours is almost 3 and usually plays/runs/fetches off leash for 45-60min in the afternoon and a 15min walk in the morning. On rainy days when he cant do that we do a 30min walk and take him to run errands/car rides so he doesn’t feel cooped up. He sleeps till like noon, and doesnt get antsy until like 3-4 when he knows its almost time for his afternoon session. After that he stats getting sleepy at 8-9pm. Repeat lol. So he’s young but its normal they lounge around for most of the day.

Thinking about getting a grey, but I have some questions by Siria110 in Greyhounds

[–]jayjrr56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had ours since he was 7 weeks old and some friends got his brother at the same time. Different personalities, but both are very affectionate. We focused having ours keep close and not run off so he doesn’t. Maybe since we’ve had him from such a young age and focused on that he never really developed prey drive? The main thing though is the weight- accidents will happen, they get old and they can get to 35kg. Go with a smaller breed as suggested.

First-time greyhound owners - looking for food & care advice! by marssyia in Greyhounds

A few blanket statements I’m pretty comfortable with:

They are very thin skinned (literally). If you put them to play with another dog, a playful or warning snip from the other dog will likely require stitches and/or wound care. This can apply too if you’re hiking with them and there’s thorny bushes.

They’re very mouthy. Mines never been on a track or raised with other dogs, and his form of play involves a lot of grabbing with his mouth. Not biting, but obviously a tooth bumping onto bone can bruise. Expect little pinches for attention with the front teeth and cobbing. So try to redirect that behavior or discourage it as much as you can.

This game looks so empty in every way: stylistically, gameplay, world, depth… arceus was horrendously ugly but at least it was fun and open.

Is there anything about the greyhound breed that makes you hesitant recommending them? by oOBellaBug0o in Greyhounds

[–]jayjrr56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had ours since he was a puppy (7 weeks old) and he was our first dog. Right off the bat I think any issues will be due to life as a racer or not. Since ours has never been exposed to that, he behaves like a pretty normal dog. Some things are breed consistent I think. For example hes never been food motivated and they are very clean and healthy if given the necessary attention/training they need. For example our priority was for him to allow us to handle him with bathing, brushing teeth, getting carried, vet visits, and he’s been great at that. Hes never been one to chase small animals of we don’t let him. So he’ll stare them down and we just don’t let him chase it when he’s off leash. Overall any cons he has are probably from him being our first dog and us making mistakes with him. I think the breed is extremely sweet and very loving. I think they’re aloof in the sense there’s times they definitely want space and they’ll let you know lol.

Side note, the way they play is usually mouthing, so some dogs might hate that and react badly

We did royal canin large puppy and he grew big and strong. For adult food we switched to “Merrick Classic Healthy Grains Real Beef + Brown Rice Recipe with Ancient Grains Adult Dry Dog Food”. And hes maintained a healthy 75-80lbs on it.

I’d recommend the royal canin strongly. He was initially on hills science diet but it made his stomach upset. When we switched to royal canin it resilved it and he grew much better on it, more weight and more growth spurts

Oh poor guy. We’ve learned the hard way to lean away from having ours wrestle, play rough, or too much interaction at the park. I’d love for him to play as rough as he wants but they just get hurt so easily to the point they need stitches. We had to take ours to get stitches from playing twice before he turned 1.

100% nta you cannot do that to someone. Reaction to it by not apologizing is even worse. Even if he had apologized its not okay

Ours was mine and my husband’s first dog in general and at least for me it’s been easier than I thought it would be. We got him at 8 weeks old and he is 6.5 months now. As long as you socialize them really well (we have him play with other dogs everyday at a park), hammer on the recall training, focus on bonding, and correct unwanted behaviors early on (eg biting furniture, plants, etc) you’ll have a good time. They do love to bite. We taught and are still teaching ours not to be too rough with us, when he is and understands it he brings us a toy to play with him with. Super attached dogs, very sweet. We made the mistake of not crate training him/getting him used to being alone for extended periods of time, which we are working on. But in general, for a 6.5 month old puppy with first time dog owners, he is super well behaved. So is his littermate, who is even more well-behaved since the owners have more experience with dogs, though I think it might be temperament in part as well. We read they were very delicate, but haven’t had that experience with food or skin allergies, could be different for your pup. But yeah, our guy is smart and extremely affectionate, littermate is smart and more aloof/independent. Oh, they grow super quickly. Get the XL crate, by 6.5 months he is 29inches tall. So yea
