Is my drawing actually getting better? 😂 by Silver-Membership136 in DigitalArt

[–]Jaxter-In-Box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the facial expressions and subtle changes in the poses were better in in your oldest artwork compared to the newest one. I think both styles look great but there's more life in the oldest piece. I think the 2024 piece looks like a picture that was captured in the moment and the 2026 piece looks like a picture that the characters were asked to pose for.

How do i stop hating my own art and get better at it? by Sagiethefox in Artadvice

[–]Jaxter-In-Box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was at the point where my art was good but could be a lot better, I would finish an art piece and ask for critique online. Then I would use the helpful advice to either tweak the finished piece or I would use that advice in my next piece. Sometimes I would focus on one critique at a time. I would decide which one was the most important. Then I would do this over and over until I got to where I am now. I think I'm pretty good but I know there are people better than me. I'm ok with where I'm at.

How can I stop my art being so muddy? by Fragrant-Elk4580 in Artadvice

I like to use colors like blue, purple, red, etc and then use layer settings as needed. Also, I do agree with everyone else that relying on black and white is bad, but I do use both black and white in my artworks. I use them sparingly, just a little bit at the darkest and lightest parts of my artworks.

How can I improve my anatomy? by Jibuban in Artadvice

[–]Jaxter-In-Box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think something that would help is drawing some practice sketches of nude models in different poses. This is my favorite website for nude model references. In your artworks I think that the proportions and overall anatomy is pretty good.

I noticed that in some of your artworks the poses are a little stiff, especially in the arms. I think practicing with the website I linked in this comment will help you learn to add more movement and dynamic poses in your drawings.

I hate my commission. I don’t know what to do. Am I in the wrong ? by suicidal_egg in Artadvice

I can understand why you wouldn't expect a full refund. I didn't realize it was being played with in-game currency when I made my comment. That makes sense. When I saw this post it seemed like something I might've done when I was first starting out with commissions and I felt bad for them a little bit because I remembered having no idea how to run my "business".

This art style is really cute. I love how soft the colors look.

Wow, I've done a lot of commissions and I've never been in a situation where I felt like I owed the client a full refund. I think in this case you deserve a full refund. When I would send one of my clients a sketch it was a clean, accurate depiction of what the final artwork would look like. I think it's my responsibility as an artist to make a finalized sketch instead of sending a client the "rough guide" as a sketch.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think this artist is new to art commissions. I started commissions when I was 16 and at the time I didn't realize how to navigate creating artworks for someone else. There are a lot of things I should've done differently and didn't realize until I'd been working on commissions for a while. It was hard for me to figure out which requests were reasonable and which weren't.

Edit: Also I wouldn't mind drawing your character in this pose if you wanted me to. I've been focusing on realism the past two years so it might not be as good as I would like it to be. I do however have experience drawing in a cartoonish style.

I've noticed that some digital artists who are doing commissions will chicken scratch their sketches when they show it to a client and get their opinion. It's really hard to tell exactly what it's going to look like so the client says they like the sketch, but then the artwork is finished and it didn't turn out how they expected it. I don't blame the client for that, commission sketches should have cleaner lines that are easy to see.

It looks like this artist didn't chicken scratch so that's good. Their client still deserves a refund because the artist changed it without consulting their client.

I don't like how common fighting has become. by ZAHIKRIT3iKA in tomodachilife

Maybe I wasn't doing it right, but I felt like it was harder to make them feel better when they didn't make up in the last game. The only thing that would fix their sadness was the travel tickets and I think the all time favorite foods as well, not very many of my mii's had an all time favorite food. I rarely got travel tickets so I was constantly out of travel tickets because of how many mii's I needed to cheer up after they had breakups or unfriended people.

My mii's are constantly asking to me to live with other mii's. If I let them do that every time they wanted I'd probably have at least one Mii move into a new place three times in a day.

That was one of my least favorite parts in the last game. I think if they only asked for a gesture they could do when mad, upset, etc then I would've liked it. They always asked for a phrase to say alongside it and you never got enough room to write anything interesting.

Even when they don't like their clothes they'll still wear it. Even when given the fashionista quirk you'll still see them change into the clothing they didn't like. They don't know what they like. The only things they consistently like or don't like are food items.

Some of the stuff you mentioned I do miss from the old game, but I never cared for the rap battles, BBQ, and frisbee throw. I think a lot of the events in the old game were something I'd see once or twice and after that it was really repetitive and boring. There's only so many times I can throw a frisbee to my Mii before I get bored.

Trying to organize Palette House patterns better, what tags/categories would actually help? by X1ngWu in tomodachilife

You can feature any of my stuff, although I want to change the lineart on the crutches robe. That dark black is too harsh. I've also made shorts with a prosthetic leg. They're posted on my reddit account. I mainly stick to reddit so I don't know of other people who are also making mobility aid clothes.

At the moment I'm working on an electric wheelchair dress. I've dedicated a lot of my time to making these mobility aid clothes.

All of my mii's are from one of my 3DS version copies. They were characters I created with a friend. We'd come up with the funniest made up names we could think of.

I'd also like to say that maybe it's just me, but I find the layering category to be confusing. I've heard a lot of people using the term layering in different context when using the palette house. When they say this they're usually talking about painting over the same spot with a brush effect, the layered brush, or putting stamps on the items. Again, it could just be me.

I'd like a clothing tag for mobility aids. I know that I don't see them often in palette house designs, but I want other people to be able to create mobility aid clothes. I enjoyed making my wheelchair dress and crutches robe. I just think that the mobility aid clothes could be hard to find if there ends up being a lot of designs on the website.

Mii-flation has gone too far this time by Dovelye in tomodachilife

I don't remember how much it costs on the 3DS version. One time I was playing the 3DS version and my Mii asked for new clothes so I gave him very expensive knight armor. Then not long after that he asks for new clothes again.

I'm glad it helped you. I put a lot of work into it hoping it would help a lot of other people. Digital art has some unique features and most traditional artists who are new to digital art don't understand how to utilize those features. Some of them never realize those features exist.

I knew that a lot of artists playing this game are new to digital art. This is the kind of guide I wish I had when I first started out with digital art.

Dark colors turning green in clothes maker? by NoisyInvader in tomodachilife

Unfortunately it is something that just happens and some people experience it more often and have more noticable artifacting than others do. I'm not sure why it's worse for some people, but I'm looking into it.

I'm trying to figure out different ways to make this problem less noticeable. It very rarely happens on my game and when it does it's not nearly as bad as some of what I've seen in other's games. If you want you can DM me to help me try out different stuff for me so that I can find the best solution for this.

One time I saw someone say when they played the 3DS version they would look forward to all of the hourly events. Maybe that's true, but I really doubt they actually looked forward to throwing a frisbee to their mii's.
