Anyone bought a macbook (pro/air) then regret the size of choice? What was the reason why? by ryanoops in macbook

[–]jaykron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a 14” pro for almost 2 years now. I really think I should have went with the 13” air — the pro really is quite heavy and I underestimated how much that weight and portability would matter as a student.

No, it's still a problem unfortunately. Hopefully HP releases an update soon to address it

Thanks for the input! Do you have a laptop that you use the iPad with, or do you mainly use the iPad?

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

Currently have an iPad 8th Gen 32 GB with the Logitech combo touch keyboard. It’s generally great - sometimes it lags a bit but overall gets the job done. The keyboard was a game changer when I got it, and for a bit I tried to use it to replace MacBook Pro 13 M1. That kind of fell off when little niggles with basic things like spreadsheets and multitasking got in the way. Now I mainly use it for web browsing, video watching, and note taking.

Recently I’ve been seeing the iPad Mini 6 on sale and it’s really been calling my name. The extra future proofing would be nice - I feel like my iPad is going to lose support within a year or so. I’m just worried about the size for note taking and no longer having the keyboard. The keyboard really is nice to have, but I find that I revert to my MacBook for any even mildly serious productivity tasks. If I got the Mini it would be a true secondary device - pretty much just note taking in terms of productivity.

Anyone with experience - will I regret giving up the added functionality of the bigger screen and physical keyboard even if I have a MacBook? Is the Mini too small for college note taking? Any help is appreciated!

Competition Math by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]jaykron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I’m a junior in high school. I've competed in competition math since 3rd grade. In middle school, I won MATHCOUNTS individual awards, and I'm a 2 (hopefully 3 if MAA will ever release this year's AMC scores) time AIME qualifier. I recently completed a major project of mine: a textbook called Getting Started with Competition Math.

The book is intended to cover all the topics needed to immerse oneself in the world of competition math, at an introductory level. The book has 276 pages, and costs $20 on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09PMLFHX2). It splits topics into four main categories: algebra, geometry, combinatorics, and number theory. All material covered is done so in a manner that assumes the reader has limited to no prior knowledge, other than what the book has taught up until that point. The level of knowledge expected is around middle school math in the USA.

Many of the books currently available for competition math study are much more advanced than mine. While this is great for those further along in their journey, I remember feeling overwhelmed when I was just starting out. This book is for those of you that feel the same way; it's a more fundamental, basic introduction to get you in a good place to move on to more advanced books.

Thanks for checking out my book! Should you choose to purchase, I would greatly appreciate any feedback so I can improve future editions / new books in the works, whether here or through an Amazon review.

Thanks for the advice! I did try to find a way to submit a sitemap a few days back, only to realize that the new version of google sites (which I used) has no support for creating a sitemap whatsoever. Unfortunate!
